Myan Ruins

We are going on a cruise in Jan. We will be visiting Cozumel, Costa Maya and George Town. We were wondering which mayan ruins are the best to see. My husband wants to see the temples. Thank you for any information you can give us.

Tulum will be closest to your cruise stop, most likely, but Chichen Itza will have pyramids

Coba, still being unearthed from jungle,is also worth a visit

If you're cruising, you may not have time to visit some of those mentioned.
Check with the ship itinerary. They usually have tours that are timed to get you back to the ship on time.
Chichen Itza is quite a distance, certainly worth it if you have the time.

Agree about chitzen itza-may be too far for your time in port. You should have no problem seeing Tulum as I assume you will be docking in Playa Del Carmen or close to it. Tulum is about 1 hr. or so from PDC and is the only Mayan city built on the sea. The views are just beautiful. I suppose if you have a full day in port you could rent a cab to see Chitzen Itza. Cheers, Larry

There are some very small ruins on Cozumel, but I too would vote for Chichen-Itza. Most cruise lines do an excursion there that will run you $100-150 per person. It is an all day trip but worth it. And if you do a ship excursion, you are guaranteed the boat won't leave without you - not something you can guarantee if you try to arrange it yourself. Some lines even fly you out to decrease travel time - altho if that is available, the cost goes up to around $300 per person. That said, if you don't want to spend a full day, the Tulum excursion is usually OK, however nothing like Chichen-Itza.
