Mustique/Canouan??Couples Trip 2013
I am starting to plan a trip for 5 to 6 couples for the late spring/early summer 2013. We are looking for a lush, private, tropical location. I was sold on Mustique (Sunrise House) and started looking through the forums here and noticed talk of Canouan (small casino?) We have traveled to many of the US Virgin Islands and BVI's one summer when we rented a boat and cruised around to them all. This time wanting to stay on land!! If anyone has other suggestions we are open!!

Be careful what you wish for, there is absolutely nothing to do on Mustique but sit on the beach, have a drink at Basil's Bar and browse the small convenience shop and getting to/from any other island is difficult and time consuming, at best. Mustique is best described as a private island enclave of high end villas for the rich & famous - there's nothing else there. It's very small, you can drive around the island from one end to the other in a Mini-Moke (think motorized golf cart) in under15 minutes.
Canouan is not that much better although it is a somewhat larger island but still not much in the way of "things to do" - a little hiking, a few water related activities and perhaps some fishing and sailing. Consider these destinations only if your group truly wants to "get away from it all". |
Have you ever stayed on St. Barts? Comments?

WAY better choice like Carl Gustaf Hotel and Victoria's food Beautiful flight in sort of bracing airport VERY short but great beaches vibestyle and french food. |
What I like about Canouan over Mustique is the ability to take day trips around surrounding cays, it's a lot harder to do from Mustique. Especially Tobago Cays and Mopion, they're stunning!

Agree with qwovadis - St. Bart's has lots to offer. You can rent a villa there that will house your party and you'll have all the privacy you need plus access to all types of watersports, some of the best shopping in the Caribbean and, without a doubt, many of the best gourmet restaurants in the Caribbean - many rivaling those you'll find in Paris.

Lauren, Not sure if you've already planned this but I am very familiar with both Canouan and Mustique. actually going to Mustique in a month and have been over 20 times, and been to Canouan a handful of times as well.
My take is that Mustique is completely unique - the people there are lovely, the beauty is amazing, and the service you'll receive is out of this world. You can walk around the entire island, and don't be surprised if your calendar becomes filled with nightly cocktail parties just because you met someone while strolling the beach. There is plenty to do - tennis, ride horses, scuba dive, and a FANTASTIC spa at the cotton house (open to non-cotton house guests). Unless you're Kate Middleton, Mustique is where you want to go for privacy. Canouan is nice, but you can find other comparable resorts in islands that are cheaper/easier to get to. Let me know if you have any more questions! |
