Must Do in St. Lucia

I am going on my honeymoon in 3 weeks to St. Lucia. I am doing research on things to do but I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on things that we must see/do while we are there. I don't want to miss a thing! Thanks!

I was in St. Lucia in mid-November and five things I would recommend are:

- A land & sea tour to Soufriere. The first part is a drive down the coast with stops at Morne Fortune (overlooking Castries & the harbour), overlooking Marigot Bay and in Anse La Raye. Once in Soufriere, you see a botanical garden, a waterfall and the drive-in volcano. Then you have lunch. On the sail back, you have a snorkel stop and sail into Marigot Bay. If you prefer to spend time on a catamaran (as opposed to driving down the coast), then the sea only tour would probably be better because the first part is a sail down the coast to Sourfiere. Both are full-day tours leaving around 8:30 and returning around 4:30. Cost was $90 US.

- A helicopter tour of the island. The 30-minute tour goes from the helipad near Castries, down along the west coast (Marigot Bay, Anse La Raye, Soufriere, the Pitons), crosses over the island to the east coast, up the east coast, around the northern end of the island (Gros Islet, Pigeon Island National Park, Rodney Bay) and back down the coast to Castries. Cost was $155 US.

- An off-road jeep safari. The half-day tour was $50 US and included a swim at a waterfall. The full-day tour (which included a 1½ -2 hour rainforest hike and cost $80-85) was cancelled due to lack of people.

- Pigeon Island National Park (there is some shore snorkelling, if you have your snorkel stuff). Stay as long as you want. Admission was $5 US + guide book $4 US (if interested) + food/drinks at the waterfront café/bar.

- Castries including Derek Walcott Square, the Cathedral, duty-free shopping (have your passport) and the craft market. Depending on the amount of shopping you want to do, you can probably see Castries in a half-day.

One thing we did that we really enjoyed was a sunset cruise around the Pitons. It was on a large sailboat which was operated by our resort - Anse Chanstenet. It was beautiful and relaxing.

A romantic place for dinner is at the Ladera Resort. You can go before sunset and enjoy a cocktail while watching the sunset, with a great view of the Pitons. Very pretty.

Hopefully I'm giving you up-to-date info...we went back in 2001!

Have fun on your honeymoon!

Definitely take some sort of cruise---catmaran or other-- along the coast past the Pitons. What as sight they are from the water!!!

We just got back from St. Lucia last night. We also did the trip down to the sailing trip to the Sourfiere and back. Each resort does their trips a little different. We stayed at the Sandals Grande and had some problems booking the excursions we wanted because Sandals said they were no longer available. But we went "off-resort" and booked what we wanted. We also had dinner at the Green Parott which sits above Castries Habour and the Coal Pot which sits at the Harbour. Both were good resturants with lots of local flair.

Your choice for honey-moon is ideal. You won't regret a moment spent. There is so much to do and explore on such a romantic island. I've stayed in St Lucia through Serenity Vacations and their excursions and personal service is quite remarkable. The Zip line is a must do if you ever decide on any tour or excursions especially if you are a nature person. Between zips there is plenty of time for a unique view of the forest.
You can do a bird watch or 1 hour hike right after the zipline canopy in the same forest. A sunset cruise with the Brig Unicorn is very romantic. The Brig was used in the film "Pirates of the Caribbean". Serenity also offer private and partially private tours so you can choose as you please. Have a swell time in St. Lucia.
