Multiple family vacation @ Long Bay. Am I crazy?

Two active laid-back families (Colorado & Michigan) plan to meet Florida parents for a week in June at Long Bay on the family escape package. I am close to pulling the trigger on reservations and air, but some pretty negative posts are causing second thoughts. We understand "island time" and can fend for ourselves, but don't want to remember the trip for all it should/could have been.
Looking for some objective recent insight.
Cheers.

Long Bay Beach Resort, perhaps? on Tortola? not Lambert Beach which is also on Long Bay but on Beef Island.
Found the shore line awfully rocky and during winter months water can be very rough at all the northside beaches. Hill to villas at LBBR are up one big incline that challenges many. Large impersonal resort that doesn't typlify the BVI. You'll definitely need to rent vehicles and be out and around taking excursions and trips to other islands for the wonderful beaches and snorkeling.

I don't know if you are talking about Long Bay on Tortola or not.
I have been there, but it was about 5 or 6 years ago.
It was OK for a couple, but I would not suggest it for a group - especially if you have along kids of varying ages. There is very little for kids to do in the area that Long Bay is located.
Also, the beach is not the greatest, and there are rocks along it that can make swimming tough at times.
There are few dining choices that don't require a fairly long cab ride if you don't want to eat at the resort for all meals.
(I have also seen some not so good posts recently.)
Also, if not many of you have been to the Caribbean before (and this is only my opinion) you may be asking for trouble.
If you're sure you do want to go to the Caribbean, I'd pick an island that you have a lot of different things to do and see that will appeal to a wider range of ages and interests than Tortola. Don't get me wrong, I love the island, but in my opinion, it might not be the best choice for what you are planning.
What are the ages and interests of some of the people going?
If at Long Bay Beach Resort, Tortola, I have stayed twice. Once with 2 children. You should seriously consider a villa rental. I am staying at one on Virgin Gorda this month(Sea Dream). Look at Sunset House, next door to LBBR at www.areanavillas.com.

My bad. Thought it was a BVI board only. Yes, the Long Bay on Tortola. What is the condition/exsistence of the 9 hole pitch n putt? How about the tennis court(s)? Not too worried about the food part, as long as the included breakfast is decent. We are targeting the beach villas. My Fthr I-L walks slow and would have trouble with the steep hills. I have been to PR, DM, St John, St Thomas, St Marteen, Cosumel
and Aruba. Also taken a family cruise.
Enjoyed St John the most - stayed low rent in Cruz Bay about 7 years ago. The six kids are between 10-17, all are on swim team, two are lifeguards. The resort's package includes a day sail/snorkel - it is on the Kuralu?
What about the screens on the doors and windows? Sounded like a little thing that could make a big difference. Thanks for all the feedback!

How busy of a port for the cattle cars is Tortola? How many cruise ships per week? Thanks.

Foppa,

Stayed at Long Bay and enjoyed for a honey moon. Pitch and putt was growing out of control. Great beach area down to the left as many folks have issues with the entire beach and Long Bay itself.

Would encourage a day sail and your entire family could certainly have some boats to yourselves. Dual Bliss comes to mind. Other bigger boats have more of a party atmosphere.

Have you posted or researched on a BVI dedicated board? Try asking here:

http://www.traveltalkonline.com/wwwthreads/postlist.pl?Cat=&Board=bvi

http://www.traveltalkonline.com/wwwt...&Board=bvi

Thanks Jackflack. Good call on the BVI board. I'm leaning away from Long Bay towards a villa or two (12 people) nearer a better beach. Anybody have any positive experiences in this area?
