Do you think you might reconsider scooter/motorcycle rental? I don't know of any place on St. Thomas with scooter/motorcycle rentals, but IMO, I wouldn't recommend it for safety issues. You have to drive on the left in the Virgin Islands, and also, the roads can be hilly and winding, and unless you're used to it, it can present a danger. I would recommend a great, convertible jeep which are plentiful, a lot of fun, and probably easier to handle. Have a great time.

the reason i wanted to get a motorcycle is the hilly/winding roads. like i said we are seasoned riders, and i lived and drove in mexico city-so i am used to crazy drivers (we live in new orleans-folks drive kinda crazy here). the bike would only be for daytime transport-nighttime bar hopping will be cabs. jeep may be cost prohibitive-it is less expensive to rent autos in maui for some reason.

I would rather:

A. be tethered to a mad dog
B. swim with a Great White shark
C. be alone in a small space with an angry bull

than ride a motorcycle on St Thomas.
Any of the above would be safer...

Seriously, we just returned from St Thomas, and I would NEVER remotely consider a scooter or motorcycle there.

We've driven all over Mexico and the Caribbean, and have seen one too many serious accidents (including a fatal one) with tourists on scooters to ever recommend doing it - no matter how much experience you have...

You can check with Biz Scooters at 340/774-5840 or try their website at www.scootervi.biz.

While it may not be the safest way to travel, I have to say I've seen nore and more folks trying it over the past couple of years.

You are getting good advice here...listen to it. You may be experienced riders in the states, but you also are obviously unfamiliar with this particular island. Traffic is horrible, and accidents are frequent. Road conditions are generally poor as well. God forbid you are involved in an accident, because of the reasons stated above, an ambulance reaching you quickly is not likely.

Take the good advice you are getting here and rent a jeep or take taxis.
