Motion Sickness Cures?
 

Preparing for trip -- plane, taxi, ferry -- and tend to get motion sickness. Any suggestions?

Ugh...do I know what you mean....<BR><BR>I tried pretty much everything til I met a travel agent from the U.S. visiting the same time we were in the USVI's. She recommended over the counter Bonine. It's not as strong as Dramamine, and 1/2 does it for me. It does the job for me, between planes, boats, and driving winding roads.<BR><BR>Hope that it helps you.

Go to a marine supply store and get seasickness wristbands. Since I am not prone to motion sickness, I can't vouch for them personally, but people swear by them. My friend's wife even used them to cure her morning sickness while pregnant. They have the fringe benefit of not having any side effects, other that strangers walking up to you in restaurants asking you why you are wearing sweatbands while eating dinner...

I highly recommend Bonine. I get sick on a raft in my pool, on my kids swingset, car, plane, etc. I went on my first cruise last year and was so worried about seasickness. I took one bonine tablet the night before we left home and then every day on the cruise and I was fine. Plus it didnt make me drowsy. I'm going on another cruise in February and will take my Bonine with me again. Its wonderful!

Yes,definately try Bonine! I get motion sickness and Bonine really works. I think they even have a non drowsy formula! Good luck and have a great trip! Lisa S.

I have several friends that have this problem, and recently used a new thing called &quot;the patch&quot; which is a small round patch that goes behind the ear.<BR><BR>Ask the pharmacist about it, apparently it does not give you the drowsy side effects that the others above do.<BR>

Bonine is probably the best over-the-counter drug - less sedating than Dramamine. Have had some success with the wristbands/acupressure. You can get the wristbands at Target or Wal-Mart too. The &quot;patch&quot; is a drug called scopolamine and you do need a prescription. The patch is best for longer boat trips as it is meant to be worn for 3 days at a stretch - main side effect of scopolamine is dry mouth, and some recommend that you do not use alcohol when wearing a scopolamine patch. There is an oral version of scopolamine - the trade name is Scopace - it lasts 4-6 hours and might be better for plane, taxi, etc. <BR><BR>Some other ideas - do not try to read, look out the window or conversely, close your eyes and try to sleep. Do not drink alcohol, eat light and emphasize carbohydrates. Chew mints - they settle the stomach.

Ginger! You can get it in pill form at your health food store. Remember way back when when your Mom gave you ginger ale when you were sick? Back then, it actually had ginger in it!!
