Most Posh Carribean Resort ever?

I have never been to the carribean but I am planning my first there in spring of 2001. I have searched this site and scanned a couple of travel books. I am looking for personal opinions from travel lovers. Please tell me where (which island and resort) you had the most incredible service, accomadations, food, beach, view, etc. It will be my husband and me (both early 30's) and we love activities, nice resturants, lively bar, and exquisite rooms.

price does not matter?

Although I have only seen it from a sailboat, Richard Branson's Necker Island is probably without question the poshest and most exclusive island resort around. For $25-30K per week, you can hang by the pool with celebs and dignitaries. It is an unbelievable piece of property, but who can pay that?

BillK Dec 6th, 2000 05:48 PM

Necker is $20,000 a day not a week. You rent the island there are 11 cottages so you can have guests if you wish each cottage has its own watercraft food is excellent your ferried over by helicopter and pampered. Give it a shot.

Try Pink Sands on Harbour Island one of the nicest in the Carriban, and Harbour Island is one of the prettiest islands in the world as per Islands Mag a few years ago, sort of Martha's Vinyard of the Carribean.

Accomodations are villas right on the beach, so you have amazing views of the most beautiful beach and green/aqua/blue ocean.

Have a great trip.
Hi Alexandra,

Necker Island is very nice indeed. It's just north of Virgin Gorda in the BVI. Its website may help you better understand why it's so expensive. Go to http://www.neckerisland.com.

There is another fabulous private island resort in the BVI that is comparable to Necker Island. Just west of Sopers Hole off Tortola's southwestrn tip and just north of St. John, USVI is Little Thatch Island. Its website is http://www.littlethatchisland.com. Both of these islands come with private boats that can take you to restaurants and bars on Virgin Gorda (Necker Island) and Tortola or St. John (Little Thatch Island).

Regards,
Ray

Have you looked at www.luxurytravel.com.
I am not certain that you will find what you want in the Caribbean based on your specifications. To me it seems that you want both class and action and I am not certain that they don't often go hand in hand. Class tends to be laid back and action tends to be funky. The Caribbean has its limitations. There is really no action on Necker Island if you don't bring your own group to make it happen.

Ray Snow Dec 7th, 2000 08:24 PM
Louis is technically correct about Necker Island having no party action. Why would anyone pay thousands of dollars per night to stay on a party island? It's private and serene. But you can go to nearby Saba Rock in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda and party until the wee hours. It's a very lively place now. In fact when Richard Branson stays at Necker Island, he and a few of his friends usually go to Saba Rock to party.

Alexandra, I was correct in my initial post and Bill was mistaken when he said $20,000 a day. The website offers packages for couples for "as low" as $11,000 a week for two. You do not always have to rent the entire island, it depends on the time period. Just thought I'd straighten that out.

penny Dec 8th, 2000 11:25 AM

Alexandra-There are lots of choices in the caribbean. I am not sure what your definition of "posh" means. Do you what a lush island? What are your expectations of exquisite rooms. Lively bar? Entertainment? Conversation? As you know the islands can be very expensive. How much do you want to spend? We love Anguilla. The island has some outstanding hotels and some drop dead villas. Cap Juluca,CuisinArt, Covecastles, Malliouhana, a brand new upscale villa Altamer and others. It could be a place to check out.

BillK Dec 8th, 2000 01:07 PM

Kyle,

The $11,000/wk was for 3 particular weeks in 1999 there was a $12,000/wk rate for 2 specific weeks in 2000 that have since past and so far no mention for 2001.

Anne Dec 8th, 2000 02:06 PM

You could rent Mick Jaggers place on Mustique-yes it really is available.

Ron Dawson Dec 8th, 2000 05:47 PM
You don't have to spend $20,000 a day or even $11,000 a week to enjoy posh places in the Caribbean. I own a small private island in the BVI which still needs a little work, but I'll make some quick renovations and you can stay there for only $900 a day.
