Montpelier Plantation Inn
I have read great reviews of this inn on Tripadvisor.com. Have any Fodorites stayed there recently?
Does anyone recall the price of dinner at the hotel? I am trying to decide if I should get a package deal or not. Thanks |
Hi, yes montpelier is really nice, I think you would enjoy it very much. Geez- I cannot remember how much dinner is, last time I was there someone else paid and I was not paying much attention. I would say maybe $50 per person w/out drinks, something like that. If a package includes dinner every night I would say No. There are too many good restuarants there, Hermitage Plantation, Bananas Bistro, Nisbet Plantation, etc.
Have fun! |
Montpelier is a terrific small inn. The Hoffman's (the owners) take great pride in making it one of the nicest places on the island. The rooms are attractively furnished with antiques and colorful fabrics and nicely apointed. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The setting is wonderful with views of Mt. Nevis, Charlestown, the Caribbean and neighboring St. Kitts.
Their chef is top notch and they serve some of the best food on the island. Dinner is a real treat and can be very romantic. You can dine on the terrace (3 courses about $US55) overlooking the twinkling lights of Charlestown and Basseterre off in the distance or in the Sugar Mill (4 or 5 courses - I can't quite remember - for about $US65) for a more intimate experience. Service at either venue is very attentive without being overbearing. Montpelier gets many repeat guests and the restaurant is often booked to capacity. That should tell how well regarded it is. It is a perfect example of a small Caribbean Plantation Inn. As long as you understand it is nestled on the slopes of the hills surrounding Mt. Nevis and not a beachfront resort you won't be disappointed. |
I also think Montpelier is outstanding, but a word about dinner -- although excellent, we really couldn't eat a Montpelier dinner every night. A couple of evenings we tried other places -- the Cooperage at the Old Manor Inn and the Beachcomber Restaurant on Pinney's Beach.

Highly recommend Miss June's restaurant in Nevis.
