We are planning a trip this summer to Jamaica. My wife and I, and 7-year old son. We are not big eaters so we don't care for all-inclusive. We love resorts that are beautifully landscaped, great beaches, nice pools. We have narrowed it down so far to two Half Moon and the Ritz. Would love to hear someones advice on which way to go between the two.

If you've never done either, I'd choose Half Moon. You'll enjoy more of an "old
school" Jamaican holiday as opposed to
the brass and glimmer of the Ritz.
(which you can find literally at any other Ritz in the world. Half Moon will not disappoint you.

I went through the same dilema -- Ritz vs. Half Moon. I chose the Ritz (I'm going there next month) for the following reasons -- 1) the Ritz is only 6 months old, 2) American Express is offering a $249/nt rate for the Ritz Club Level room, which is practically all-inclusive (check out their website for more details) and well, it's the Ritz. I stayed in a Club room in DC a couple of months ago and the concierge service was amazing. I don't think you could get more for your money.

You got that right. I've stayed at 2 Ritz Carlton's(Pentagon City, VA and San Juan) and the only way to go is Club Level. You only have to pay for dinner when you travel and the service is worth it alone. If I can afford it whenever I travel, I want to stay at a Ritz. Plus if you can get a really good deal then you're set. I'm hoping to book the Ritz in Jamaica for August really soon.

We had narrowed our choices down to the same 2 resorts, for the same reason. We chose Half Moon and are leaving Thursday. I will let you know about it when I get back. We also plan to check out the Ritz while we are there.
