Montego Bay airport to Ocho Rios
Is there a way to take a boat from the Montego Bay airport to a resort in Runaway Bay, Ocho Rios or Port Antonio? We have heard horror stories about the ride and would probably enjoy a boat trip better? Any ideas who to contact?

It's under 2 hours, a boat would take a lot longer, in my Jamaican boating experience.
You could fly into Boscobel but then you'd have a 45 minute or 1 hour ride back towards MoBay. The best advice I can give you is skip the bus/shuttle and get a good guide/driver to take just your family in a comfy van or us, so you can go at your own pace, stop along the way if you like, consider it your first tour :) |
Thanks Liza - I was just hoping for a boat ride (much more enjoyable to those in our group who get carsick). I will contact the resort or someone about getting private car/van (there will be 6, maybe 8 of us) for trip to resort from airport.

I think that will be best.
A couple of guide-drivers you can contact for a private transfer: www.cheftours.5u.com barrettadventures.com |
Lacy,
I wish we had some sort of ferry from Montego Bay to all over the island. I've always thought to would be much quicker and easier to get around the island. Alas we do not. Wasn't Carolyn Bennett working on some such thing, though? Tiverton? Oh Tiverton? Would you come and enlighten us please? :) |
Carolyn's 'The Adventuress' is moored in MoBay waiting for a fix to her jib sails, and what, with the usual Jamaica time, she should be sailing again by month's end. She does do charter day sails -- and longer -- all the way to Porty. But the pricing will be considerably more than a private PPV insured/certified van driver which she also can supply for airport meeting service and transfers. Figure on 2 hours drive, longer probably if you're on the resort's bus instead.

Check out Tim Air, a private plane service. We used it and a wonderful way to see the island, plus get to Ocho in about 20mins. We too, have done the bus ride and prefered not to do it again. Can't remember the cost-but it wasn't too extravagant.
