Money help on Grand Cayman
can anyone tell me the following?
1) would I be better off changing my U.S. money to Cayman dollars or just sticking with U.S. Cash (I know the exchange rate and have a "cheat sheet" to help with this). 2) do you recommend that I bring alot of $ in traveller's checks or just bring my Visa Check Card and some cash(the atm's on the island take Cirrus I believe, and that will work for me)? |
We just came back from Grand Cayman. I brought cash and travelers checks. Many shops will give you back Cayman money, even if you pay with US $$. The way we did it, was charge the condo and the diving, but all meals, etc we paid in US cash.

When I was there last year, I was told Caymanians prefer US Dollars... for what ever that is worth.

Everyplace takes US dollars, and most restaurants will give you a bill with the Cayman amount and the US $$ amount.
It's 80 cents to one US$. |
We own a condo on Grand Cayman and spend 10-12 weeks there each year. I don't do TC's. I don't take US cash. I stop at the ATM at Foster's and get CI cash (from my US checking account).
I get $.82 versus $.80 on the US dollar. |

US dollars are accepted everywhere on Cayman. All price though, are quoted in Cayman Dollars. So you will have to convert to use when you pay. If you pay in US$, they will give your change back in CI. Keep in mind that the CI dollar is worth more then the US dollar so it will cost you more....
Have fun - Cayman is beautiful. Lori |
