Mid-August Honeymoon: Turks and Caicos or St. Maarten???
Looking for feedback on Honeymoon destinations, places to stay, and things to do. I realize that there is the risk of hurricanes, but we're going to roll the dice. Would prefer no kids. Both of us are extremely active and while we enjoy a little R&R, we also like to explore new places. Thanks in advance for feedback and recommendations!

Congrats to you. I was at Turks and Caicos for one week about 11 years ago. The water was gorgeous but in terms of activity there was not much to do. It may have changed since that time frame. I am an active traverler and like to relax but not an entire 7 days. I went to St. martin only on a day cruise twice. difficult to comment. I love Aruba and is out of the hurricane belt. It is a destination you might consider. If it is between the 2 I think I would choose St. Martin.

You won't find much on Turks to explore other than water-related activities. However, I much prefer it to St. Martin. It's not even close in terms of the beach and most of the restaurants.
Aruba doesn't thrill me, either, ( way too Americanized), but it is usually out of the hurricane belt.
Some of the islands I do love are: Anguilla, St. John, Nevis, but I'm not sure how big a risk any of these are in August.
Good luck!

Look at Barbados. Also considered outside of the hurricane belt. More things to see and do there than Turks and Caicos.
I agree with Aruba, if it's what you are looking for. It's one of our favorite Islands.
One thing to consider is, the more built up the area, the more there are to see and do and extensive dining opportunities.

I would definitely recomend Turks and Caicos!. I went with my husband two years ago and it was wonderful. The food is amazing. We stayed in the Alexandra Resort, and they offered us a bunch of different water related activities. The food in TCI never lets me down. If I was you, I would go to TCI

Turks & Caicos for sure--we spent our honeymoon there and have gone back twice/year since then , We stayed at The Regent Palms on our honeymoon but, have since fallen in love with The Somerset resort. Both resorts are beautiful. You will find less children at Point Grace resort . Lots of water activity and the water is soooo warm in August--love it!!!

Turks and Caicos, it's beaches are 2nd to none...well....Anguilla and Tobago Cays and out islands of the bahamas are just as nice.....I know you can do day trips to Grand Turk and a few other islands.....
St. Maarten is a fabulous island to explore - with Orient Beach and it's beach bars, Grand Case and it's restaurants, Pinel Island - calm beautiful water, and then the dutch side, duty free shopping in Phillipsburg, Cupecoy for great sunsets, Maho - fun, Casinos, etc.
From St. Maarten - you can ferry over to St. Barts, Anguilla, Saba,Prickley Pear (a national park), Tintemarre......fantastic places to see.
Good Luck!

We visited St. Martin twiceonce in 1980 and agin in 2007-8. We found it quite boring except for 5-6 good restaurants and a few nice beaches and hotels.
T&C has snorkeling a livly social life, nice beaches, good not great restaurants and very nice hotels from $200-$1000/day based om elegance, amenities and season. The Somerset and The Palms are 2 among probably 25 that are 3+star with 15 of those 4 and a few 5 star.
