Marriott in Caymans
Unfortunately, my husband and I are all set to go and stay at the Marriott on the Cayman Island. I know it's getting bad reviews, but does anyone have suggestions as far as what beach to go to- is my location walking distance to the 7 mile beach?

I have never stayed at the Marriott but walked to it via the beach the last time we were there(10/00). It seemed like a decent hotel on the inside. Yes, the beach is completely eroded in front (or is it back?) of the hotel but within 1/4 mile the beach starts up again. Given the low tourism this year you shouldn't have a problem finding a place to sun. If that doesn't work there is a public beach just north of the Westin, probably about a mile away from your hotel. Also, ask the concierge, they may have an agreement with a beach club where you can go.

Have a great time, I wish I was going back!

We recently stayed at the Marriott. It is on 7MB but yes, the beach is basically gone. When we were there in Nov. the hotel was shuttling people up to the Holiday Inn beach which is very nice. You can also walk a little ways up and find some nice spots.

Lisa,
You are on the south end of 7MB at the Marriott. But don't get bummed over the beach!! Just start walking north and you'll find a beautiful beach!! And as a previous poster stated, I believe they will shuttle you if you want! Your going to love Grand Cayman! Don't let the Marriott spoil your trip.
Sandy

I wouldn't worry one bit. The Marriot might be located on a skinny stretch of eroded beach, but a very short walk will put you into a nice area. And I'm quite certain it is MUCH closer than a 1/4 mile walk to find suitable beach which was posted above. My guess is that you can find a nice area to hang on the beach within a 2-3 minute walk. Don't let the negative posters ruin your vacation. I stayed a few properties south of the Marriot, and no, the beach isn't as wide as it is up north, but it was VERY easy to find better areas by simply walking a short distance.

Plus the Marriott (formerly the Radisson) is a GREAT hotel! The rooms are large and nice, the staff is fantastic, and the amenities can't be beat.

I cannot recommend the Marriott because of the beach. I also do not recommend walking up the beach to find a nicer spot. You are generally not allowed to use the beach chairs, showers, etc. of the private condos up the beach, and many of the nicer ones have security that kicks people off if they are not owners or guests. There are a few places that rent beach chairs, etc., but they are very crowded.

You can easily walk up the beach and find a nicer spot.....if you don't mind laying your towel right down on the soft sand. The resorts can only stop you from using their stuff (chairs, etc.) not the beach, since the entire beach is public.
