Marriott Honeymoon in the Carribbean

My fiance and I are looking to use Marriott Rewards Points for our October 2004 honeymoon. We are considering the Caribbean and are hoping for some guidance...

Can anyone provide any suggestions? Anyone have any good stories that may help our decision?

Acccording to an informal poll I have taken among Marriott users, including some Marriott employees who are friends of mine, the best Marriott in the Carribean (in terms of rooms, facilities, beach, etc) is the JW Marriott in Cancun.
Second is the Ritz-Carlton in St Thomas.

I would pick the Ritz in STT - it's hard to book though, call now and see if you can get a reservation.
Grab it and then you can cancel if you decide on something else.
October is still hurricane season - if you want to rid yourself of that worry go further south to Aruba or Curacao.

As previous poster said, October is hurricane season. Chances are you'll be fine, but if you don't want to take the risk Aruba is a great place. I haven't stayed at the Marriott there, but have heard it is very nice. The Marriott Stellaris resort and the Marriott Ocean Club are on Palm Beach, and that strip is very nice. I've heard very good things about both properties, and the weather is perfect year round, no hurricanes in Aruba.
The JW Marriott in Cancun is also an excellent property.

I recommend the Marriott in Curacao. We were there in November and the rooms were very nice and clean and the staff was friendly, helpful and curtious without being "in your face". Another positive is Curacao is not in the hurricane belt.

Congrats and good luck!

As noted, please factor in the hurricane issue. October is the biggest month of the year for bad storms.

I agree with nfahey. The Marriott in Curacao is beautiful. There are many attractions around the island worth seeing as well.

I work for Marriott, and my favorite caribbean island is Aruba. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon also, which was our second trip there in two years. The Marriott Resort and Stelaris Casino is very nice, and it shouldn't be too difficult to get a room there at that time of year with your rewards points. I am a HUGE fan of Aruba, mostly because the beaches are great, the weather is awesome, (trade winds make it very pleasant), comparable in price to the US, incredibly good shopping and some of the best restaurants I have ever been to. There is also many beautiful areas to explore, like the Wish Rock Gardens, The Natural Bridge, Natural Pool, etc. The island is clean, safe and friendly, without the hawkers that inhabite much of the caribbean. Also, if you go there on your honeymoon, let everyone know it is your honeymoon. We got free desserts, appetizers, and multiple bottles of champagne all because we were honeymooners!
