MarionCK
Marion asked me to let others know she can no longer post here, so she will not be able to respond to any questions directed to her.
|
Please tell me your not serious ??? Why ? Have I missed something ..... This board will be missing some very sound and good advice without Marion . I have always enjoyed conversing with her and reading her posts . Please could you give me a bit of information ? Faith . ( faithie @videotron.ca )
|
MarionK: I have also traveled the world alone, and I would do it again!
|
I must have missed alot over night..what happened.I hope that it gets worked out. :)
|
Marion:
BTW..I don't know if you saw my post..but I would love to go on a trip "solo" sounds VERY relaxing.Have fun...I would like to go to Harbour Island oneday..looks beautiful ;) |
Why is she no longer able to post? What happened?
|
Lois or Marion: I, too, would like to know why Marion cannot post here if it is a Fodor's reason. If it is a personal reason, then I guess it's really none of my bidness, but if truth be told I'd still like to know. I've come to admire and respect Marion's postings as I've read them over the past couple of years. If either Lois or Marion reads this and feels comfortable doing so, please send an email to ejcrowe42ataol.com. You know what to about the "at." Thank you!
|
She posted as late as this morning. Click on her name and read some posts. Apparently she may have gotten crosswise with Fodor's on a post regarding villa owners. It seemed all seemed tame to me, especially considering some of the stuff that's gone on here lately, but her posts mentioned she'd been locked out by Fodors at some point.
|
Lois,
Thank you so much for posting. I still have no idea why I was blocked...but did write a letter to the editor...and voila...here I am. Thanks again ! Marion |
The thread you are talking about is "Island Harbour/more growling". It does not make any sense, why she can't post, if it is a Fodors decision. I hope this blows over, I really enjoy her posts. Carol
|
Hooray!! Welcome back:)
|
Marion , that actually happened to me once last year ..... I first started posting with my sons name , Willem . One day I could not post at all .... So I had to change my name . Strange . Faith .
|
Glad that is resolved. The only time I have seen a poster blocked by Fodors was the infamous Bahamas obsessed Harald and he wrote a delusional diatribe on just about every Bahamas related post. Finally Fodors found a way to bar his posts much to most everyones delight if not behest. Actually I was once informed by Fodors that blocking someone can get them into major trouble with the FCC as this is a public forum.
|
Welcome back Marion, you would have been missed terribly. I admire someone who can tell it like it is.
|
JW: I don't believe the any content of the world wide web is regulated by the FCC. Think about it for a second. :) Fodor's can block any user or poster if not in compliance with their user agreement.
Marion: Welcome back! |
Welcome back...that was strange. Its funny on trip advisor..people can argue for days and nothing happens.Maybe it was just a glitch.:)
|
Thanks to everyone for the kind words ! However, I'm thinking we should get back to discussing travel, before the editors reconsider my re-instatement ;-)
Ah yes, I certainly remember Harald ! I always posted that we should just ignore him. A tough request ! Yes dear Faith, I do remember when you were Willem and my surprise to learn that you are Canadian and not Dutch ;-) I'll add that email conversations can often be misunderstood, which is one of the reasons I put in so many emoticons, just in case my sense of humor is misunderstood ;-) ! I'll let you all know how the Harbour Island search progresses...but I surely won't complain about property owners ever again. You can teach an old dog new tricks :-) ! Marion |
CS. I don't know but that is what the reply from them was when I asked about a certain prickly poster. Maybe an editor can clarify. I do know that this Harald charcter posted way over the edge for quite a while before they blocked him. Good point though. BTW guess what my son got me for fathers day? A card was fine AND he also gave me a six pack of Red Stripe. Yah mon. :-)
|
What an awesome Father's Day! I love Red Stripe! A great gift from your son. My son is only 20 mos old....so that was out of the question. :) My wife picked me up a nice bottle of Cabernet, however!
|
Marion:
What are the temps in Maine right now??My son just went to NH and I am having a hard time reaching him. I bet that it is alot cooler there right now..then here at home NC.Last week we had days in the 100s with the heat index.:( |
Cabernet huh ? Nice...but what happened to the Chianti and the fava beans ;-) ?
Sorry, just couldn't resist :-) ! It's another cold, rainy day in Maine ! Marion |
Too bad for the rain and hooray for the cooler temps :)
|
20 mos. Wow. This is a time to cherish. :-). Gotta run. See everyone later. :-)
|
Marion,
WHEW, I am so glad that things are back to normal around here. Just to clarify for people that knew you had a problem. Island Realty is a small company, yet most home owners on HI work with them to rent out homes on island. Summer is typically a slow time on island, and it's very possible that some one or two of the staff there is on vacation, so that means they are probably short handed to handle everything that needs to be taken care of, including emails. That's why I suggested that she call island realty to check on availability, I know that once Marion calls they will let her know what is available that month in her price range and get things taken care of for her. The people on island are very warm and welcoming. |
Thank you, once again dear lady :-) !
I did post on the Briland board and thank you for your kind words there. I have copious notes ;-) and plan to call Natasha or Geraldine this afternoon. Thanks also for the volunteer suggestions. The Day Nursery it shall be :-) ! I'm still SO much better at the old-fashioned things, like singing and reading stories. My adult daughters still claim that NO ONE reads Dr. Seuss better than I ;-) ! If I were to volunteer for computer duty at the library, they would be teaching me ! At the risk of giving too much personal information, the last month of my Dad's life was February 2005. I need to be in a warm place and to give something to the community in his honor. You have eloquently described Harbour Island as a place with warm and friendly people...and I don't have to drive :-) ! Seems like a good fit to me ! Take care.... Marion |
Glad it's much ado about nothing, Marion. And thanks for your kind words on the other post. Believe me, it's mutual.
|
Uh, that posted before I read your last post, Marion. Your father's last month alive and your wish to honor that is certainly not much ado about nothing.. I salute you. Just wanted to clarify so that my post wasn't read in the wrong spirit. :) Glad you're back!
|
Oh EJ, I understand about typing while posts are coming in..no problem.
As I said, it was probably too much personal information, but I guess I thought I would *explain* my desire to find something on HI, and perhaps to account for my short temper. All is well...except for the weather here ;-) ! Marion |
Marion:
This is probably risky too however..My first husband died during the month of May in 2000 so May can be a rough month. Sorry to hear about your dad. Christie |
Marion:
That's great that you're going on a trip in February to remember your father. That should be very special. I've also heard that it gets somewhat chilly in HI in the winter months. Perhaps you should go somewhere farther south. How about St. Bart's? I've never been but I've heard it's walkable per your wishes. |
Marion: Glad to read you're still channeling Margaret Chase Smith...
|
Ah Tiv, you lovely man :-) !
I will always be chanelling with the great women of the centuries ! I make no apology for being a feminist, first and foremost. But I will always be a champion for all human rights :-) ! Did you expect any other kind of response from me ? I keep checking your website hoping to see new properties. I'm sure it's more time consuming than I realize, just hoping to find something special in Jamaica :-) ! Take care my friend, Marion |
Chianti and fava beans? Marion, are you sharing your PMS remedies with us again? ;) Actually, my wine cellar has several nice Chiantis....minus the wicker bottle, of course! Chiantis are very fun wines IMHO. Viva Italiano!! :)
|
Marion: Thought invoking Maggie might give you smile...This might be of interest/we await 3 new shots being taken this Friday on island, but the offline working site is available (just click on the base of each page
navigational to go from page to page, as the other links not yet operable. It's a top notch spa on the South Coast, also offering 3, 4 and 7 night getaways for 1 or 2 only.http://www.jamaicaescapes.com/oasisthespa/oasis1.html There's also an appointment form on oasis8.html I spent 5 nights there after the photo crew left from shoot 1/very sweet place. We'll have pages up on this/and 4 more new places in about a month on site. This, a preview only...P.S. If you're feeling very stush, one of the new places has a helipad, ready for your arrival. No French horn serenade on arrival, but we're working on that... |
CS...I was quoting Anthony Hopkins in "Silence of the Lambs" ;-) ! Unfortunately I remember Chianti bottles when they all seemed to wrapped in straw. We'd take the bottle home, and lovingly put a candle in and watch the wax drip down. It would often take years, and many candles, to achieve that proper Italian look ;-)
Those were the days... Enjoy your Cabernet and your son...these are the days :-) ! Marion |
Sorry....flew right over my head! It was a long time ago I saw the movie. Straw is the the term I was looking for....and I remember my parents turing their Chianti bottles into candles back in the 70's. But I know the "look".
|
Yikes, I think I'm going to have to admit to my ignorance. I knew straightaway the Hannibal Lector reference and chuckled to myself-my husband and I frequently quote that book and movie. In fact just this morning we were about to leave the house and he said, "Ready when you are, Sgt. Pembry."
But I don't know who Margaret Chase Smith is, though she sounds like someone I ought to know and would like to have known. All I can come up with is the fabulous Maggie Smith, one of the grandest of the grande dames in my opinion. Marion, you remind me of a particular friend here in western Mass. I would've sworn you were channeling her these last couple of days as you've hit her brand of feisty coupled with a pinch of irreverence. |
Hi EJ,
Margaret Chase Smith (12/1897 to 5/1995) was the first woman elected to the US Senate :-) You can read about her life at mcslibrary.org. She was a personal favorite of my Nana who was a *feminist* long before the phrase was coined. Tiv just likes to make sure my brain is still working by referencing people I *should* remember. To make this travel related, although I complain about the Maine winters, our few days of summer are really special and today IS one of those days ! Forecast is good for the entire weekend, so come on up to Maine for some *chowdah and lobstah*. Even fried clams are available...we're getting them from Canada :-) ! Marion |
Marion: LA SIRENA, a newly-built 3 bedroom/oceanfront with plunge pool villa on 3/4 mile Billy's Bay beach, should be up on our site in about 2 weeks time. Designed by a Santa Fe architect who first discovered Treasure Beach 15 years ago with his family and has now returned to build
his dream house. Miss Ida, the first cook they had that first visit, is now the cook/manager of the new villa. It's an all-white, minimalist Palladian house with mahogany-stained cedar French doors that open out to pool and oceanviews as the way down to Pedro Bluff. Great sense of space and privacy. Could be the 'bolt hole' you looking for. Will let you know when it's up... Note that I'd didn't ref Collins nor Snowe. |
