Marion has Returned!!!

She's back! Let's all rejoice!

MarionCK Dec 29th, 2005 02:28 PM

Now mah...I thank you and you always make me smile, but please remember that not all will be rejoicing over my return.

I'm reciting that famous nursery rhyme...there was a little girl that had a litle curl...when she was good she was very, very good...but when she was bad she was HORRID !

I have been known to have my share of horrid moments ;-)...but I keep working on the positive.

I think I'll add that to my New Year resolution list...again :-)

I'm sure everyone is rejoicing. And if they're not, they're not worth your time!

I'm glad you had a great time. I would love a vacation right now.

Tivertonhouse told us where you were staying & supplied a link to the website. The villa you stayed at looked wonderful. Did you like having a cook? I am curious about that and wonder what it's like?

There has been less activity on the forum since you went on vacation. It might just be a function of the holidays and I hope that it gets going again after New Year's. I haven't seen any posts from Christiegr or many other regulars.

mah,

Coquina and Blue Marlin are situated together, yet extremely private, and both are charming. Coquina sits higher up and has an expansive lawn down to the beach. Blue Marlin is closer to the sea and is on one level. Both properites share a thatched roof summer house which is huge and provides teak loungers in the sun and padded Adirondack chairs under the roof for comfortable, shaded reading.

Each house has a cook/housekeeper and they are sisters...and have extended family all over the area. So if your breakfast fruit is not picked from a tree on property, a niece, cousin or another sister may drop by with something from their orchard.

I learned that peanuts are grown in the area and the next day a niece arrived with a bag of freshly dug peanuts that I ate out of the shell and "parched" (roasted with salt).

I laughed when you told Tiv that you don't eat fish. I don't either...but that's another story ;-) But if your husband eats it he will find new meaning in "catch of the day". Fishing nets are set early in the morning from the beach and then nets are pulled, by hand, almost tug of war style, fish is sorted and sold right on the beach.

It just doesn't get more authentic than that :-)

Having a cook doesn't mean formality...it means personal choices and the ability to sample small portions of new things....and to observe in the kitchen if you want :-) !

And the food budget that Tiv outlines means three feasts a day...a bargain by any standard !

I think it's the kind of vacation you would truly enjoy and it is a unique experience !

How time flies. Welcome back.

MarionCK Dec 30th, 2005 04:13 PM

Thanks to all for the welcome back messages. You have all made me smile.

Larry...Yes, Tiverton made some wonderful rum suggestions and I sampled all of his suggestions :-)

Christie...My daughter did reach me, and I posted somewhere here about my maternal horror that she found me here...where I thought my thoughts and opinions would be private ;-) Adult children are often more creative than the young ones ;-) !

Yes! Welcome back Marion! I hope you had a wonderful time. Would love a trip report...one chapter at a time, please? A trip that long doesn't serve justice in a few paragraphs.

christiegr Dec 30th, 2005 06:40 PM

Marion,

"Adult children are sometimes more creative than the young ones."

I am sure that I will find that out one. ;) My young kids are already very creative..I cannot wait to see how creative they will be as adults.;)

Oops..forgot to proof read... I meant to say "oneday".

HI Marion!

Welcome back! I know you will be basking in the afterglow of your trip for a long time to come. Things have been pretty quiet here - people have been playing nice - so I have not had to get anyone back in line in your absence since the topless beaches thread! ;)

alya Dec 30th, 2005 11:18 PM

Well Diana,

that can't have been me I was only topless for half of the time :-D

Marion, we are so pleased to have you back - even for a short period of time. I always enjoy your posts and I don't think I've seen a single post where you have been even slightly 'Out of Order'.

Sometimes in your posts I can almost see you biting your tongue while you reply. :-) I thank you for your posts because that allows me to agree with your thoughts - generally I would have been more terse than you are. Not a good thing, but you save me from myself!

I'm spending time on another travel board with Present and Ex-Fodors posters. I like it because it reminds me of this forum, there are no really 'snippy' posts and lots of threads where we get off topic and no-one calls it hi-jacking!

This forum is the major reason why I stay with Fodors.

virginia Dec 31st, 2005 03:54 AM

ayla at the risk of getting this thread deleted could you please please tell me where the other "present and ex posters" are posting? some of the ex's had such good info and i miss them.
very welcome home marion. don't know how you even came back after a month in paradise...looking forward to hearing everything you want to tell us about your "excellent adventure"

Diana Dec 31st, 2005 03:57 AM

No no alya. I agreed with all you said. I also went topless at Idle Awhile :")

It's the holier-than-thous I had a problem with. ;)

alya Dec 31st, 2005 08:02 PM

Diana, me too!

It was an entertaining post wasn't it?

Virginia, not to happy about naming the board since from what I've heard posters have been suspended from Fodors after posting the link. So!

In the advanced search option of Google, type 'TGIF rants and raves' in the 'with the exact phrase' box.

Visit soon but please leave your baggage at the door :-)
