Making phone calls from Bahamas
Hi,
Apologies if this is a repeat as I asked this question yesterday but not able to find my posting. What is the best way to make phone calls from Bahamas to USA? Is it better to buy a phone card (before going or locally in Nassau)? Or is it better to rent a cell phone as ours will not be usable and does not have SIM card. Thanks Atul |
There is a cell phone rental (Cellular Abroad) for the Bahamas that charges per minute, regardless of how long your stay. The rate is similar to what Bahamians pay and avoids roaming charges with a US number. SIM cards are OK if your only in the Bahamas for a short while or if you're returning every few months. I've seen people with a cup full of quarters calling the states from a pay phone, another option. If you buy a phone card, let them know that you're going to use it in your room or not, because one works from your room or a phone and the other will only work from pay phones. The room card only is more expensive, but you talk in a quiet atmosphere, since pay phones are usually around high traffic areas. However, feeding quarters into a pay phone averages about about 40 cents a minute cheaper than room cards. For economy, find a pay phone in a quiet place and call at a quieter time of day/evening. With all the technology, people don't think of this option much. Robert59

I forgot, you can purchase a Batelco "Hello card" by dialing a local number when down there and then a pin no. you scratch off. Then, the US number you want to dial. Robert59
