Leaving for Jamaica in 2 weeks...can I bring my passport and marriage certificate since my maiden name is on passport. I got married 6/2002.

Thanks!

I traveled with my maiden name on my passport for nearly five years without ever having a problem. However, I would strongly advise bringing your marriage certificate along with you considering the tight security issues these days.

My more recent personal experiences have been that your ticket and passport names must match exactly. Therefore, you might want to contact your local passport office, as well as the airline, to ask this question. Better safe than sorry in case you have to put a rush on getting a name change on your passport.

are you airline tkts in your MAIDEN name or your married name..???

If in your maiden name, and you are just getting married, your drivers license and birth certificate will be fine...

If in your married name, bring marriage certifcate so they can see BOTH names -ie Maiden and Married so they see you are one and the same,,,

Normally when a couple travels on their honeymoon, the travel agent make plane reservations in the wife's maiden name- and the hotel reservation normally goes under the husbands name..Then you do NOT need your marriage certificate...

As long as the name on your ticket the name on your passport it should not matter in most countries - I have been married 8 years, still kept my maiden name - have not had problems when traveling. However if you are not a US citizen or permenant resident - then yes do take your marriage certificate along- you may need it when you re-enter the US.

As far as entry into Jamaica is concerned - no problems at all. All I was asked at immigration was where I planned to stay. Thats'it.

your maiden name should be on your airline ticket too. if not, you have to take your wedding certificate. take the original, not a copy (make sure you leave a copy at home though..to be even more anal - like me! - take a copy as well and keep it in another piece of luggage). if you got married in church, don't bring the church certificate, that's not a legal certificate. you need to take the one you got from the county you got married in.
have a great time.

...and then when you return from your trip, go to your local government center and fill out a form to "amend" your passport. You will need to bring your original marriage certificate and another form of ID. There is no fee for doing this and I got mine back in less than two weeks with our original marriage certificate. What they do is state that your name has amended to "__________" and stamp it with their little certificate embosser thing as to show it is official. They do this on the second to the last page of your passport.
