Mahoe Bay, Virgin Gorda - July 2007
Renting a villa in Mahoe Bay, Virgin Gorda, July. Seeking advice on the usual, 4x4 rental - fair rates, restaurants and activites (aside from planting myself on the beach with an umbrella drink=equates to 20% of anticipated time there). Also, because I am renting a house, I want to transport some beef, chicken for BBQ from the US, any experience with such a matter? Thank you!

Hi Lindaleigh,
There is a forum from fodors on Mahoe Bay. Hopefully some of this will help. You can check out my pix from this page too. The last post from it was on 3/17/07 at 10:56 p.m, called Can anyone recommend a Mahoe Bay Villa? I can’t seem to get the link to work directly by copying it into this post, so you’ll have to track it down. Good luck on your trip!

We're going to be staying on Virgin Gorda in June and we're renting a 4X4 from Mahogany Car Rentals. Most car rental rates seem to be about the same... but Mahogany offered a discount for paymnet by cash / traveler's checks, which made them a tad less expensive.... so we went with them.

Lindaliegh - You have to apply for a permit to bring in meat to the BVI's. I'm not sure of all the details and requirements but if you search the archives on the BVI Forum at www.traveltalkonline.com you find loads of information as the topic has been discussed several times in recent months.

Hi, Lindaleigh. What dates will you be there? My family will be staying in Adagio villa on Mahoe Bay for 5 nights, July 12-17.
We've got the obligatory trip planned to the Baths and Spring Bay, we might hike Gorda Peak for the great views and photo ops, and we'll do one major daytrip--either to Anegada by plane for beach and snorkel time or a daysail to the Indians and another snorkel stop. Snorkeling is going to be our main activity for this trip, so we'll basically be chasing down the good snorkeling beaches. We have a granddaughter who thinks she might want to try parasailing, so perhaps we'll head up to Leverick Bay for an afternoon and then stay for dinner. We're renting a car but not reserved one yet.
We'll probably eat at Giorgio's our first night because we'll be tired form our day of travel and we can walk there from the villa. It's pretty expensive, though.
There's a very active BVI forum on www.traveltalkonline.com where you can browse and get lots of great info.

Hi, ejcrowe - I am renting the villa from 7/15/-7/25. I've visted The Baths before while on a snorkeling trip and they really are worth seeing. I've done parasailing before - off a winchboat in Ft. Lauderdle - I'm sure your granddaughter will love it.

Lindaleigh, we stayed at Bellamare a year or so ago and really enjoyed the villa. The outside patio area is fabulous and we ended up spending a lot of time there. The views are amazing. Good idea to transport some meat, not a lot of selection in the supermarket.
