Luxury Hotel in Puerto Rico?

My husband and I are looking for a relaxing place to spend 4 days in April. Any recommendations on hotels would be great- we love to hike, swim, play tennis and go to the beach. I have heard the Horned Dorset is wonderful, but am afraid for a short trip it may be too far to drive. Any recommendations? Thanks!!

If you plan to stay pretty much on that side of the island, the drive's not bad, unless you hit at peak commuting hours, even on their modern expressways.

It's hard to see everything in PR unless you plan to spend a lot of time in the car or hopping from hotel to hotel. You've chosen a very pretty property in a charming area. Enjoy it!

One of the most amazing hotels I have seen. Has all the activities you want on a private island just off the coast.
Enjoy your trip.

El Conquistador has good points (a very pretty property), but the staff can be unattentive, you can be a long way from the beach, & unless you have one of the top tier rooms in the better areas, you may be disappointed in the appointments of your room. It's definitely not up to par on all facets of the operation.

I'd stick with the Horned Dorset.

We love the Hyatt Dorado. The beachfront rooms are so close to the water it is like you are on a ship. It's 40 minutes from San Juan, so that may be more convenient for a four day trip.

I don't know if you have ruled out staying in San Juan, but if not, I would recommend the Ritz Carlton in Isla Verde.

If you're going to stay in San Juan consider the El San Juan Hotel & Casino (now called the Wyndham El San Juan). It's on the beach in Isla Verdi near the airport but a true luxury hotel. Have stayed there 3 times and would do it again. A small charming hotel right downtown is El Convento - a former convent. Go for lunch even if you don't stay there - wonderful salmon caesar's salad!

My son and I are planning a 4 day stay in Jan Juan Jan 10. Any more info re a nice, reasonable place to stay? Also, what are the most interesting places you would recommend?\How much was it to stay at the Wyndham and how did you get from the airport?

thanks

Dorado outside of San Juan is wonderful if you just want to lay around and chill out. Specify you want a beachside room, which as previously mentioned in a message is only foot steps away!
Enjoy.

I agree, go to Hyatt Dorado Beach. My husband and I went last January for a long weekend, it was very nice. I had been a snob about San Juan (for no real reason), but really enjoyed it. We would definitely return. Good food, nice beach, rooms aren't fabulous, but fine. We also looked at Horned Dorset but thought that was too hard to get to for such a short stay. Dorado was a pleasant surprise!

Another vote for Hyatt Dorado. It's very charming, clean, and sexy at the same time. The waterfront rooms give a breathtaking view. My husband and I can't seem to find another place we like more. And it's worth taking a day trip to San Juan.

I will also give my vote to the Hyatts, both of them are very nice. They are sister properties, one quieter than the other. The Wyhndam El San Juan is also one of my favorites. The Horned Dorsett is spectacular, but about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive. I like the Conquistador, but I actually like the Westin more. Also a nice beach there. Hope this helps.

I just got back from the Horned Dorset. It's lovely - very relaxing, nice rooms, interesting guests, very good - but very formal meals. It's not a place for a lot of activity. There is no tennis and not a whole lot to occupy you besides the beach, the pool, etc. You could rent a car and visit other beaches, and see neighboring sights, but I would not recommend HD for only 4 days. It's a tough place to get to. Feel free to email me for more details. I've never been anywhere else in PR, but have been to numerous luxury Carribbean resorts.

We went to Puerto Rico a year or so ago. Stayed at the El San Juan. We had a lovely time, and the beach was pretty nice. The lobby/bar area is lovely, though overall the hotel is a bit long in the tooth. The highlight was definitely the WONDERFUL food we had in town. Three restaurants, three nights, each topping the night before. Quite impressive.

I saw that there's a Ritz on Puerto Rico - wonder how it is? We were considering taking our 7-year old for a quick trip.

We drove over to El Conquistador for the day. You have to take a fairy to their beach. Not quite convenient. The hotel seemed very nice, though, and brunch was good.
