Lunch in Grenada
We'll be stopping in Grenada for one day on a cruise in early Novmeber. We've done the island tour thing so we're just looking for a nice place to have lunch (preferably local fare). Are there any places we can walk to from the dock or take a easy taxi ride to? Thanks for your advice.

My recommendation would have been Nutmeg in St. George's, but I have no idea if it survived the hurricane. You might get better information on the grenadaexplorer.com discussion group.

Thanks RAB, I checked the site you suggested and could not find any info on Nutmeg.......it's nice to see many hotel/restaurants, etc. are open for business.......
|
I'm very surprised by this considering the fact that most of the island was completely ravaged by the hurricane. I have a friend who is a Dr. who volunteered is services post-hurricane and recently returned -- he said that conditions are still very, very bad.

Agree with others, check island conditions or if you find out when you arrive...ask around but the best local restaurant is/was Patrick's on Lagoon road just outside St. George's on the way to Grand Anse. Serves up some 20 local dishes for sampling...pay one price about $20 for all that. Not sure if they are open for lunch but definitely dinner. Reservations highly recommended, the place is very small.

Thanks all....I will report back when I return in a couple of weeks....

Patrick's Homestyle Cooking will be closed until Jan 2005 - this information is from the sticky post on the forum at www.grenadaexplorer.com.
There was nothing on the post about the Nutmeg. |
skitravel,
Most interested in your report upon your return, thanks. curiousx, Great info. |
I am very interested in your information from when you return from Grenada. I am going there January 4-6. Haven't found a hotel yet. Did you see any open for business and if so which ones? Also interested in general conditions of island. Thanks!

I am so sorry I did not reply when I returned....as luck would have it...both my husband and I got the stomach virus and were unable to venture off the ship in Grenada....however....all you could see were blue tarps covering the roofs...actually I didn't hear of anyone leaving the ship....most of the shops looked closed.
Sorry I did not report sooner. |
