Loved St John ... any suggestions for something similiar?

We loved the quaint town and beautiful calm beaches. We're looking for an island or resort in the Caribbean that is similiar. A less expensive island would be great too! Need to go in Nov/Dec and hope to have 85 degree weather.

Look into Jamaica, specifically Negril area.

www.jamaicans.com

Sorry Dave, but Fleming has a point. Although both Jamaica & St John have beautiful beaches & landscapes, they are totally different. There's nowhere on the entire island of St John where I'd feel unsafe, and I mean NOWHERE. Jamaica simply doesn't offer this same security, period.

ROTFL
Ja and St. John don't even belong in the same sentence. Negil does have a great beach but get real. Fleming said it perfectly. Maybe Grenada or St. Barth's would satisfy.

I too asked the same question many months ago. St Barths was also suggested to me. I was also wondering how Barbados would compare.

St John is our most favorite spot (we are renting a cottage on little hawksnest in may). We spent a week in Barbados- very beautiful, very large, friendly people but a lot of poverty and the food is ULTRA expensive. Hard to beat St John- especially the beaches & snorkling. Little Cayman has wonderful snorkling but not the St John quality beaches. St Barths (great beaches)is an option (rent a villa near Saline beach).

Maggie,

We went to St. John, and it was very good. I would recommend you to look into Anegada and Cat Island in the Bahamas, but be warned, there is no nightlife what so ever. You can rent a car on both Anegada and Cat Island, there are a few restaurants to eat at, there are lots of places to snorkel and sunbath. We stayed on the beach from 10 AM until 5 or 6 in the evening and not one person walked by, (the resorts we stayed at prepared a lunch for us). I thought it was a great get-a-way. If I recall, I thought the cost was about the same as our trip to St. John. If you need any more...

Michael
