Looking for THE island

I posted a msg earlier today but I don't see it so here it is again...We're looking for a caribbean island with great snorkeling from the beach, plus decent food and enough exploring or other stuff to see/do (plus some decent food) to keep 2 adults satisfied for 5-10 days. We want to avoid industrial and cruise tourists, shopping, nightlife and large resorts. Any opinions?

Try Tortola! It's all you described & more! Can do a day trip to Virgin Gorda to the Baths, can do a shopping day trip to St. Thomas, go hiking on Mt. Sage- see the rainforest. Try Fort Recovery Villas for a very small intimate resort. Go to Pussers Pub for the Painkillers & eat at Sebastians.

My choices are either staying at Harbour Village on Bonaire or the Presidente on Cozumel. Snorkeling is good right off the beach.

See www.jamaicaescapes.com for an island-wide collection of off-the-beaten track estates, villas, beach cottages, and private excursion services, including snorkeling/fishing/boating and bush hiking guides. 3 additional properties will be added within the next 3-4 weeks.
