To Clifton:
I stand by my statement concerning Bermuda and hurricanes. I was not comparing Bermuda to the islands in the Caribbean but to Hawaii. The Caribbean averages several hurricanes each year, while Bermuda has very little trouble with hurricanes as I indicated. Bermuda has already had 2 hurricanes brush by it this year and Hurricane Issac is supposed to pass to the East of it soon. You are right most of these storms don't make direct hits but some do and many more bring tropical storm winds, rains, and real big surf to the island. Whereas, Hawaii gets such treatment extremely rarely. I'm sorry if I upset you with my answer. I was not putting down Bermuda. I love the place, but 1 or 2 hurricane a year on average cetainly do impact it. Compared to the Caribbean or even the Gulf Coast or Southeasten Atlantic Coast of the US, Bermuda has much less trouble with hurricanes. But I am glad you questioned my statements about Bermuda. I would not want to mislead any one about such a wonderful place.

Ray,
I didn't think you were putting Bermuda down. In fact your assessment was pretty much equal to my feelings about both islands except for the hurricanes & the beaches. I understood that you were comparing to Hawaii not the Caribbean, but my perception of your statement was different from your meaning, obviously.

If you'd stated that Bermuda was affected by tropical weather resulting from storms several times a year, & occasionally a direct hit, I'd not have asked for clarification.

As for beaches, we love the beaches on Maui but have an affinity for the South Shore of Bermuda, I admit for personal & romantic memories. Just a personal preference. The two island groups are so different; it's rather like comparing apples & oranges, isn't it?

Just a fine point that caught my attention. I wasn't questioning your integrity, only trying to understand exactly what you meant.

Cheers!

Chilton,
It looks like we are on the same page after all. Like you, I love the South Shore beaches of Bermuda, especially Horseshoe Bay, Stonehole Bay, and the beach at the Reefs Resort. I love the pink sands and the surf crashing on the rocks. It is without a doubt one of my favorite places on earth.
Regards,
Ray

Ray,
And little Jobson's Cove, where the parrot fish get trapped when the tide's out. For sheer drama, Stonehole, absolutely, but I think Warwick Long Bay is OUR place.

Ok, I've talked myself into it --- time to plan another trip. ;-)

Best,
Chilton
