Our family spent Thanksgiving week at the FDR resort,Jamaica last Nov.We had a wonderful experience. Wanted to book again this year, heard the resort was closed for renovations. Looking for another family spot within our budget for this Nov. We have been given quotes for Beaches Inn, Negril and Rennasissance Jamaica Grande. Need some advice on either one. Children age 6 and 11.
George

Sorry, but I have to agree with Bill. We went to Jamaica for 7 days on our honeymoon and after that, on another vacation we stopped there while on a cruise (don't generally care for cruising either). Both times we were disappointed and we won't go back. In a nutshell, we didn't feel safe going off the resort (Sandal's Negril & Dunn's River) and didn't like being hassled everywhere we went. We have been to St. Barth, St. Martin, Anguilla, Grand Cayman, Cancun & St. Thomas. In St. Thomas we didn't feel safe either but it wasn't as bad as in Jamaica. I would recommend either of the others over Jamaica, any day.

George,
We take our kids to Negril, the water is very calm and shallow and clear, no undertow or anything. You can walk quite a way out too.

I think you'd like that, but I can't tell you about those resorts, we rent a villa or cottage on the beach.

:) Liz

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I finally decided on Paradise Island, the Sheraton Grand. Got a very good deal and the place looks amazing. I hope no one has anything negative to say about that place because I've got my heart set on it. :) Thanks again.
