Looking for private house

My husband and I are looking for a house on a beach to rent for a week. There must be snorkeling from the beach - that's our only requirement. I'd lke to go to Bahamas as I haven't been but we're not limited in any way to a particular island. Does anyone out there have a personal recommendation for a specific house? We'd like to stay around $1500-$2000 for the week. Thanks for any help.

I am not sure how much this one costs, but there is a beautiful house you can rent on the Hawks Nest Resort & Marina property on Cat Island. If you look at the website for Hawks Nest, it does have information on it. Also, you check out the following website:

Thanks Susan. I'll look at that house. Have you been there before?

We snorkeled the waters off Eleuthera right from the pink sand beach in front of our rental home. Rented 3 different homes there so far...here's the best one, nice amenities, even has its own actual lighthouse atop the roof! Be aware that Eleuthera is very very laid back, we saw nobody closer than waving distance in the five days we stayed at this house (how's that for romantic?).

Ovingtonl; You may also want to look at the Abaco's cays: Green Turtle, Guana, Lubber's, Walkers, Hopetown, etc. Many private cottages and houses are rented throughout this stretch of small islands bordering Abaco's eastern shore. There's Coco Cottages, for example, which have some for about $1300/week. You could rent a Boston Whaler and explore all the cays as well, and snorkel in the coral reefs. You could fly into Marsh Harbor or Treasure Cay airports on commuter airlines from Florida. Then, take a taxi to the Conch Inn Marina or Green Turtle Ferry docks to go to your place. For Coco Bay Cottages on Coco Bay, you'd take the TC ferry to their own dock on Green Turtle Cay. Online, you could find all the other cottages and houses throughout these cays. Much solitude, no casinos, etc. Robert

Ovingtonl:

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. No, we did not stay in the house at Hawks Nest Resort, we stayed in the hotel portion of Hawks Nest. But we did go inside the house while there. It is well-appointed with three bedrooms and two full baths, if I remember correctly. AC throughout, fully equipped kitchen, bright and cheerful. It is to my understand that the family who owns the resort uses it when they visit Cat Island. The thing about the house that really stands out in my mind is its location. About 20 steps from Exuma Sound, with comfortable lounge chairs and BBQ on the deck. Very secluded and private, although you are on the resort grounds. I personally would have no qualms about staying there.
