lodging in St John
I'm thinking of visiting St. John in March. There are 2 families, we are looking a nice resort or villa. Resort will give the kids more amenities close by, but villa would be more comfortable. Can anyone tell me about Caneel Bay, Grande Bay or Gallows Point?

Caneel Bay is the only one that is really a resort- has 7 beaches, restaurants, etc. Grande Bay and Gallows Point are both condotels in Cruz Bay. Villas are a whole different thing. Many people book 6+ months in advance!

We saw and spent time around Caneel Bay( visited from our cruise ship) and thought it looked nice. The water was beautiful( calm & aqua blue) and the beach near the resort where we were had cute wild donkeys. Was not charmed by the town of St John-a few decent shops but we were reluctant to try any restaurants. But CB has its own restaurants so that would not need to be an option.
