Ladera Resort- How was it?

The Ladera is very tranquil, serene & very laid-back its isolated atop Petons ( 1100 FT )if you looking for unique & peaceful experience this resort should fit the ticket.
The hotel rooms themselves are rustic and open to the sea. Most of rooms have beauiful ocean views. No need for Air Conditioning there are cool breezes coming off the mountains & no humidity. Beds have Mosquito net & a small fan We never had a bug problem. Tree frogs Chirp at night can be distracting but I found it restful None of our party any complaints

We were a party of ten & the staff could not do enough for us. Orlando the Exec Chef went out of his way to accommodate us & arranged everything we needed. (By the way, his kitchen is immaculate).After dinning there was,not much to do.
There was music and/or live entertainment very night except Sunday. The Meal Plan is a must at $99 a day it is a bargain & it include drinks.
They also have great spa & salon
Although July is considered the rainy season, we had very little rain only the occasional 10 or 15-minute sprinkle. We spent our days on the beach accessed via min- van (a 10-minute ride) or went snorkeling or day sailing. They do offer all types of excursions scuba, snorkel, fishing, climbing etc. If your budget permits, the Friday Night Fish Fry at $100 PP was a good time you’ll travel by boat to a small fish village & enjoy local dishes & unique night out.

Dtayed there 4 years ago and agree with most of the above but we checked out after 2 nights. Wht? Well, in June hot breezes are still HOT so that sleeping was unpleasant or relaxing in the room was was a bit of a problem mid-day. Even with the netting we got bitten. If I were in Central America I would not be surprised but not at this elevation with basically no rain.
With A/C I would recommend the place, though.

I'm going to Ladera on my honeymoon in less than one month. Are there any restaruants near by that you can also reccomend? Or will we eat at Dashnee evernight? We are not renting a car, so we will have to travel by taxi, but if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!

Let me just suggest that after a rain shower you put on 100% DEET. Also going out after 5PM or so also adviseable as well and before you go to bed. Some folks are concerned about any more than 20% DEET but since we have been traveling to Asia, C.A. and S.A. we see a highly regarded immunologist who has told us the scientific white papers still say 2-3 weeks of 100% DEET 3-4 times a day with a shower with a hard soap each day will have absolutely no harmful affects.
So you might want to consider buying 2 plastic bottles of Ben's 100DEET liquid. We pay $5 in a camping goods store in NJ.Then if you have the nastyies we had 90% of them will not bother you.

First let me say congrats! You picked a beautiful place to spend your honeymoon. Do take a cab over to Stonefield Resort next door (on the other side of the pitet piton) and catch the sunset and dinner (we stayed there and loved it). It’s about a 10 minute ride. Also, take a cab down to Jalousie (which Ladera overlooks) and you can take a water taxi on Friday to Ansla Raye’s (forget spelling) Friday night fish fry-it’s a great fun night with fresh lobster, fish, local food, local music and dancing. Then take either a cab or water taxi back. The water taxi is a great way to go as the roads are very windy and it takes awhile in the dark. You’ll probably want to set up the water taxi ahead of time as they don’t wait there-one day when you’re on the beach, ask one of them if they can take you to the fish fry.

You can also take a water taxi from Jalousie’s pier over to Anse Chastenet for lunch/drinks-they have a black sand beach and a bunch of hammocks there.

I’d also recommend going horseback riding there-spectacular views. We also hiked the pitet piton-very rigorous vertical climb if you’re into that sort of thing. You can also hike the Gros Piton which is an easier climb with steps. The volcano we thought was a waste of time, but if you’re there, you midas well check it out. Botanical gardens were pretty and the rainforest hike was okay (mind you we hiked the Napali coast in Kauai before that hike so it’s hard to compare) but it’s still pretty nice with a waterfall you can swim in at the end.
