Ladera or Anse Chastenet
 

Hi, my husband and I are interested in going to St. Lucia next year around April. Anyone have any opinions on whether Ladera or Anse Chastenet is better? And what about Jade Mountain? Thank you for your help

We stayed at Ladera, but just visited Anse Chastenet. We loved Ladera, but wonder whether it is still worth the price since it's been in the World's Best lists in the last few years. Anse C is a step down in ambiance and quality, IMHO. Ladera is not on the beach, but up the hillside (which is what we loved about it). You have to take a shuttle to the beaches at other resorts below. If you want to stay below, my impression of the Jalousie Plantation was better than AC. (Not sure what it's called now since it's been sold again.)

Hey Bonn, thanks for your answer. My honey always wanted to stay at Ladera. Just looking for confirmation that it is as good as it looks. I am looking for a one bedroom deluxe, any specific suite that I should request? AC, I wonder about all the stairs. The Jade Mountain resort looks really cool but again, will we have to climb up & down the stairs to get anywhere. Again, thanks for your kind replay, Barbara

Do a search of Anse Chastanet, there are some recent threads that could help you. I recently wrote how much we loved AC for our 20th. anniversary, where we splurged for the premium hillside room.

We stayed at both of these resorts, 3 days at each. While they are both beautiful, I would have to give the most definite edge to Anse Chasenet. I also thought Ladera would be a step up but that was not the case. Anse had better food and the beach was unforgetable. You can always stay at both, but Anse Chastenet would be the one I would chose to go back to.

It is the view that won it for me at Ladera. You can stare at the Pitons all day. We equated it to watching a fire. There are no steps to climb at Ladera--it is all level at the crest of a hill. We were also enchanted by the open air rooms, particularly at night during the rain. That's my pitch for Ladera. Haven't stayed at AC. The web info on Jade Mountain sure looks alluring though. That is new since I was there.
If you're going for a whole week, I would agree that you should split the week between the two. You might feel captive at Ladera after 4 days.

My travel agent liked Anse Chastenet better than Ladera. Jade Mountain, she says, is like $700 or $800 per night!

We were at Ladera in a suite WITHOUT A/C.It was Not a pleasant 6 nights.The suitye was lovely and the property was elegant but it had an "air" of aafluence i did not like. It's hard to explain, to be frank. The views are lovely but 2 days of the same views and you have absorbed it all, in my opinion. I have not stayed at Anse Chastenet so I cannot compare. If you check the thread for Anse you should get some more input about the food. One traveler mentioned it was better than Ladera. If you get that trend and food is important to your then Anse may be right. While St. Lucia talks highly about snorkeling, if that is one of the activities you would do 2-3 times, and are rerally enjoy good snorkeling you may be disappointed compared to say St. John, B.V.I. Grenadines,Curacao-WEST END.
