La Cabana Resort ?'s

I'm looking into going to the La Cabana Resort at the end of this January with my fiancee for a 5 night (mostly R&R) trip. Any opinions on this resort? Is $2K reasonable for air/hotel (from NY, nonstop)? Beach nice? Good eats close by?

Thanks!

We were at the LaCabana Villas for two week in November, 2004. We were very pleased with the accomodations. We had a one bedroom suite. What exactly would you like to know? I will be happy to answer any specific questions. Yes, the beach is nice, and there are many good restaurants in Aruba. The only way you will know if $2K is reasonable, is to shop around and see if another Travel Agency can quote you a lesser price.

Thanks Shirley. I've read a few posts where the reviewers complained the rooms had a poor/moldy smell to them and needed renovations...also read that you had to cross a very busy street to get to the beach, and that the beaches were rocky...
Also, how was the casino there?
Thanks!

We stayed in the Villas, which were the farthest back from the beach. I don't think they are as old as the LaCabana Resort which is closest to the beach. Our unit looked like it was recently renovated. Yes you do have to cross a road to get to the beach, but traffic is suppose stop for you. We had no trouble crossing the road. When we were there the beach was all sandy bottom, no rocks. The Casino is a short walk from the Villas in the back. There are many Casinos in Aruba, so if you don't like one, you can always move on it another. All in all we enjoyed our two weeks at LaCabana Villas and the only complaint I have it that the two weeks went by toooooooo fast and we had to fly home!

Not sure what you are looking for, but we toured La Cabana 2 years ago. The pool area was mostly concrete, the lobby was not at all inviting, the rooms were OK. The clientelle seemed loud. I know I sound terrible, but we were so glad we did not book there.
We stayed at the Marriott. The Marriott is 2 properties-the hotel & timeshare. They have nice pools & beaches. The Marriott hotel has an all inclusive program which was great. The restaurants were excellent.

I have stayed at both La Cabana (several years ago) and the Marriott Ocean Club (in November). Yes, the Marriott is nicer, but I actually like the beach where La Cabana is located much better. It is wider, less crowded and if you are willing to walk just a short way down, you can have the beach to yourself! Lots of people comment about having to cross the street but it was no big deal, it's a small street, you barely realize you are leaving the resort. For that same nice beach but a more intimate atmosphere than La Cabana (which is huge), check out Amsterdam Manor, Costa Linda, Bucuti.
