David,
Have you ever considered a condo instead? That's the way to go on Grand Cayman, especially with kids! Eating out down there is very expensive, and with a condo you can fix some meals in without paying high restaurant prices.

Hi David,

Definitely go the condominium route. The Condo's are generally less expensive, roomier and the beach is not crowded if you stay at the north end of 7 mile beach. For instance, a two bedroom beach front condo with kitchen is $240/night @ Discovery Point. They have a great location. Amy and I were there in May and we practically had the beach to ourselves. I strongly suggest you check into this great place. E-mail me if you need further info.

David,
We stayed at Plantana in November. A 2 bedroom ocean-front condo for $265 per night. Really pretty and spacious for the kids (and yes, full cable). The pool there is nice, but with only a two minute walk to the Westin, you can play at their pool for the afternoon, sip fruity drinks at the swim-up bar, and be back at your condo for dinner.
Have a great trip wherever you choose.
The water is fabulous!

We stayed at Comfort Suites with our kids. We had a large room with 2 separate bedrooms, a kitchenette, and another pull out bed in the sitting area. It was clean, the pool was nice, and the beach was just a short walk down a pathway. However, when we go again, we will rent a condo that has a full kitchen. Eating out in Cayman is expensive. Our kids would prefer to enjoy the beach and a pool instead of cleaning up to go out to eat anyway.

David,
My wife and I brought our boys there twice, at ages 3 & 5 in 1998 and 4 & 6 in 1999. They were both great trips, lots of fun for the kids. We rented a car and did lots of fun stuff. Snorkeling off the beach at a place called the cemetery was excellent. We rented condos at both ends of 7 mile beach. Discovery Point was our second trip and the condo was great. You can e-mail me with any questions and I'll find details on all the stuff we did with the kids.

I would definitely recommend a condo over a hotel. We always stay the the VILLAS OF THE GALLEON, a condo complex right in the heart of Seven Mile beach. We usually rent a two-bedroom, two bath condo, and have always been extremely comfortable there. The condos are about two blocks up from a huge U.S. style supermarket, and even though prices are higher than you'd find at home, you can save over what hotels would charge for breakfast, lunch, etc. There's no pool at this complex, but we usually go next door to the WESTIN, although in season, that can be crowded.

I have stayed the hotel and condo route and I prefer the Treasure Island. They have a great pool for kids and a good beach for snorkeling (but it is rocky with coral). I do the same thing there that I did at the condo. Go to Foster's Grocery and buy stuff for breakfast and lunch. We did not want to have to come off the beach and clean up for lunch just to go back out again after lunch. All the rooms at TI have a refrigerator so we just went to the room and made lunch and went back out on the beach. While it was nice to have all the room at the condo, we did not spend enough time there to justify the extra cost.
