Just returned from Nassau, any questions?
We just returned from our second trip to Nassau and would try to answer questions that fellow travelers may have. I am putting together some trip notes and could email them if anyone would like a copy as soon as they are finished. Just let me know.
|
I would like to find a small hotel off the beatn track in Nassau, not to close from the city. Any suggestions?
|
Celine: Most of these places are either on Cable Beach and are fairly big, but good beaches, especially at the Nassau Beach Hotel where we stayed. There are quite a few on Paradise Island, connected by bridge or by ferry, but they are also big or not right on a beach. There is the South Beach area away from downtown and from the other two spots. The Makeba Beach Hotel has eight rooms, but I don't know anything about it or about the beach itself.

Maybe you would be interested in nearby Eleuthera. It's easily accessable from Nassau. It's supposed to be quiet, clean and beautiful. Do a search on the Bahamas and check it out, it may be what you are looking for.

Good luck!
|
Celine:

Compass Point is an excellent resort off the beaten path in New Providence. I highly recommend it. Another, even more remote resort is the Clarion South Ocean Resort.
|
Did you visit the Atlantis Hotel? If so, how was the beach? My fiance and I are thinking of going there and a beautiful beach is very important to us. From the photos I couldn't tell very much.
thank you
|

Whew, I never expected this response. I am in the process of sending out copies of our trip notes and I'll get to you as soon as I can, honest.

Erin: The beach as is everything else, is beautiful at Atlantis. It's not a cozy little place, it is big, but very nice.

Tracy: We take along our passports as a habit, but for the Bahamas, all you need is a (raised seal) birth certificate and photo ID (driver's license) is a US or Canadian resident.

Cindy: The kids and you will like Atlantis, a lot.

Thanks, all, I'll get busy.

|
lee-we are leaving on aug 3 on a carnival cruise to nassau- we'll only be in port one day- what are the most important things to see in that amount of time? kids are 17 and 13. any special interests for them?
thanks so much
|
Leigh: You can walk right from your cruise ship and take a water taxi over to Paradise Island and spend some time. I would recommend staying downtown instead, since everyone seems to head over there. Close by, you can head straight to Bay Street and turn right. Just a few blocks down is the famous Straw Market area where you can find all kinds of goods for sale. Stroll through the alleys and check it out, it's pretty neat. You can take the horse and buggy ride, but the kids may think it's not cool. You should stay busy right in the downtown area. Have some local food and try a Kalik beer. Have fun!
|

Message:Lee, I am planning a trip to Nassau in early November and would really appreciate a copy of your trip notes. I have two daughters ages 14 and 4. I am completely unfamiliar with the area and will also be staying at the Nassau Beach Hotel. Any advice you could give me on restaurants also would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.

July/august are the rainy seasons. We are planning a trip in July, did you encounter a lot of rain, if so was it prolonged or sporadic?
|
No, I don't have any questions, but thanks for asking.
|
Bill, the rainy season just means you will get a bit of rain just about every day, a quick cloud burst to cool things down and then the sun is back out.

When we were there last, we were about a mile away from the Marriott at the Zoo and watched a thunderstorm over the hotel, while the sun was bright blue over us.

The storms usually don't last long and you will be glad the air is cooled off a bit. July is hot so bring LOTS of sunblock.
|
Hi:
Will be in Nassau one day on a cruise. I was told by a friend it is possible to
use all the facilities at the Atlantis for a $50. daily fee. Do you know if this is true?
Also, is the dolphin swim worth $145?
What local group offers really good snorkeling?
Lots of questions; would appreciate any info you may have. Thanks, gus
|
There is a "tour" of Atlantis for $25. It doesn't give you use of the facilities. Just go--they can't stop you from using the beach. You can get into the aquariums. The Dig may be a little more difficult during the day. At night they don't usually check for ID.

Hiya! My husband and I have been to Nassau twice and Freeport once...Will not go back to Freeport...Love Nassau because it is easier to get around and have gottn to know the people well. We have a condo at SandyPort near Cable Beach and trade thru RCI now, so in 2001 we will go to Caymans. Love Atlantis on Paradise Island which is just over the bridge from Nassau. You could spend all day at Atlantis. I don't think the price of room there is bad for all there is to do...With kids, they will stay entertained..It has it all! Be sure to take the side trips they are fun and keep ya busy. Need any special info I do have all my "free" literature I have collected on our trips...so maybe I can help. email me and I will respond. Wishin you blue skies and sunshine! (Comfort Suites is not a bad place, price is less expensive than Atlantis for sure..but you will have to walk around or taxi alot..)
