Just returned
We just returned from seven days on Guadeloupe, and must say this is as near a perfect vacation as we have ever enjoyed. We stayed at the Royal Cariebe just outside of Le Moule on the eastern island. The resort is being renovated by a French company after almost being totally destroyed ten years ago. The restored portions are beautiful, the staff friendly, and helpful, although not very inclined to go out of their way for English speaking guests. This is primarily due to the language barrier, and the fact that only seven of the guests during the week we were there spoke English, the staff who did speak English and others though were helpful if we went searching for help.
Guadeloupe is a beautiful island, the beaches, the national park, the volcano, the banana plantations, etc. The food had two types, it was either wonderful, or hardly edible. St. Francois on the eastern island had several wonderful dining areas. If we were to return we might stay more centrally located, although Le Moule was so peaceful, after winding our way on the scenic, but winding narrow roads are resort was a peaceful haven. We loved it. If you're considering going. Go for it.
Is smoking still ubiqutious on Guadeloupe?

If so, why go on vacation to poison your lungs?
|
Jan, I too found Guadaloupe a beautiful island with some wonderful beaches but it was many years ago. Guess my answer to Noah (and I do try to ignore posts by Noah ... but ... this was just too much! LOL) would be that people smoke because they choose to and for the same reason others eat hi fat diets and are overweight, drink alcohol and harm their brains and livers, sun bathe and risk skin cancers, drive cars and have accidents because they drive too fast, even get on airplanes, or even drink coffee (the caffeine, you know!) ... life is risky ... try it sometime! I do hope this does not disintegrate into a whole thread of dribble but rather a discussion of Guadaloupe!!!! Have a wonderful New Years ...

ubiqutious(u biq wi tis)[F.ubiquite,from L.ubique.wherever,everywhere]n.
The quality of being everywhere or in an indefinite number of places at the same time,omni-presence.

|
Why did you post the definiton Dorothy?

(I won't even dignify Karen's gratuitiously obnoxious and idiotic post with a response)
|
Another example, Noah, of what most ,no not all,but a good majority of posters think about you and YOUR arrogant replies .The only reason you think Karen's reply is obnoxious is because your name is mentioned ,must be,because everthing she said is true.Or maybe she struck a nerve. At any rate I have given you FAR to much of my time.
|
I have decided not to let Karen's highly destructive corporatist (tobacco and alcohol industry) /libertarian propaganda to go unrefuted.

Unlike most of the other things you mentioned, when one makes the choice to
smoke or drive unsafely, one is directly affecting many other people who
have not made such a choice.

There is a substantial body of medical evidence which clearly indicts
second-hand smoke as being extremely harmful to all those who are exposed to
it.

Thousands of people are killed every year because of reckless drivers. The
drivers may have made the choice to take this risk but most of the victims
did not. (Certainly not an informed, conscious decision).

As to your comment, "... life is risky ... try it sometime!", thankfully my
senses and soul have not become so corrupted and desensitized that I need to
smoke, drink or drive unsafely to 'live'.

Maybe *you* should try to learn how to *really* live, without poisoning and
endangering yourself and others!
Noah.
Why don't you put your dictionary away and give us all a break.I am so sick of you.
|
Has anyone ever noticed how Noah really has nothing to contribute to this forum.
All he ever does is bash everyone elses opinions, using big words(in an apparent attempt to look like an intellect),I for one am sick of his presence.
|
I think were all getting sick of Noah, maybe though we can put this to rest.
|
I actually (sortof) enjoy Noah's posts. He/she/whatever adds a little life to this forum. Also, he/she HAS made contributions, for example: taking the the time and trouble a while back to make a list of other travel forum websites.
|
Cheers for Noah!!! Most of you losers on this board wouldn't have a strong opinion if your mamma gave it to you. Your so obsessed with the lower aims of fellowship. Noah, has a strong opinion and is fun to read. Keep up the good work and don't let these idiots keep you off the board
|
Is there anyway to have Noah permanently banned from posting? He/She or whatever takes away from the integrity of the board and the meaningful posts made by others (such as Karen who is a valued contributor). Anyone can open a dictionary and point to a big word and then try to use it in a sentence..no great talent. It is also obvious this person has too much time on their hands...maybe Mommy and Daddy had better monitor the on-line time this person is allowed. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to sit and surf the net..just idle time!
|
Hey, I'm with you,Ban Noah,
LETS GET RID OF NOAH.I have a feeling those other poster's who are enjoying his posts are actually Noah giving himself a pat on the back, cause, hey, does anyone really think he has ANYTHING worthwhile to say?
|
Noah, we are all well aware of what you do not like, i.e. smoking, homosexuals, nude beaches, etc., etc. etc. Why don't you tell us what you DO like, what trips you have taken to CB, the types of places you sayed and actually liked. The most I have seen posted by you that is informational are the URLs and .......well that seems to be about it.
|
I never said about homosexuals here.
|
Oops, my mistake. Maybe it was Decent Tropical or some other alias, or maybe it was another person with blinders on. If so, my apology to you. But I am still awaiting your reply to the most important part of my message, tell us about your adventures in the CB.
|
You are ALL IDIOTS!
|
Noah..how interesting that you attack when asked to share your personal experiences in travel! GOTCHA...all your experience has been surfing the NET and searching through the dictionary for large words and making sarcastic/juvenile comments. Do us all a favor and spare yourself further embarassment..GO AWAY!!!
|
I did not write the above message attributed to me.
|
I thought I was entering a site with information about travel. I guess I was wrong.
|
Thank you very much to 'jj' and Hank Reardon for your support.

As to the gratutitous, ad-hominem attacks, there really is no need to respond.
|
I have decided to reply in order to clarify some things.

I am happy that Jan had a nice time and her description of Guadeloupe sounds very nice indeed.

I replied as I did because I read in a Fodor's Caribbean guide that smoking is ubiquitous on Guadeloupe and that it is virtually impossible not to be exposed to it.

My raising the issue of whether or not it is worthwhile in the long-run to choose a vacation destination where one will be exposed to the dangers of second-hand smoke was perfectly legitimate and appropriate. Unfortunately, the thread degenerated into gratutious personal attacks on me rather than an intelligent discussion and debate of the most serious and relevant issue which I raised.

The people who accused me of using a sophisticated vocabulary just to impress people seem to be jealous of the fact that my vocabulary is actually superior to theirs. This is actually quite pathetic because I'll be the first to admit that my vocabulary is not that great but I guess that compared to theirs it looks impressive.

Notice that I only say this in response to their insults and attacks on me. I do not insult people gratuitously but when attacked I will fight back.

As to my Caribbean travel experiences, they are not relevant to this thread. I have never been to Guadeloupe and have never claimed to.

I went to Puerto Rico and Antigua when I was around 9 or 10 with my parents. That was over 16 years ago as I am 26 now and I have rather vague yet very fond memories of both vacations. Unfortunately, there are several reasons why I have not been to the Caribbean since then. I participate in this forum because I have a great interest in the region and hope to go back in the not-too-distant future and I enjoy reading about people's experiences and learning about the region. I have also been doing some research into the region for some business ideas I have which I am not at liberty to discuss at this point.

Those of you who are able to travel often are very blessed.
|
Oh yes...one more thing...
YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS!!!!
|
It should be obvious that the above post is another forgery.
|
No..I take that back. It is true that all of you..every single one of you heathens...
ARE IDIOTS!!!
|
Hey, this is just an update. We've moved and changed our email address. so here is the new one. We've corresponded with several people on our trip to Guadeloupe and will be happy to converse with you. We were there in December of 1999.
