just curious
do most people tend to go back to the same favorite island year after year or do they tend to try out new ones?
|
The 'Sandals people' go to different Sandals resorts...which is the same as going to the same island over and over and over.
So that doesn't count.

I believe that the majority of people who love to travel love the discovery aspect enough that they like to keep expanding their horizons. Sure, return to favorites periodically, but remain open to new experiences life long, is my philosophy.

I think many people return to their favorite destination (s). And why shouldn't they? My inlaws loved Hawaii and Aruba. They simply wouldn't go anywhere else.

Have to agree with Jack. Most people tend to want to try new places. I find that many people will develop a slight prejudice (preference) for a particular island/location that is like a 2nd home to them and thus will return to this place. I have friends who go to a particular island every year...for them it's almost like a pilgrimage!

If you live in a major metro area, would you eat out at the same restaurant every single time you go out to eat?

We have yet to go to the same place twice. There is just so much in the world to see that a lifetime is not long enough. I want to see differant places and experience differant cultures for as long as my health and money hold out.

We take 2 vacations per year. One is Cap Juluca, we return to because it is the perfect vacation for us. We love Anguilla and Cap Juluca and we have not found another island that has it all like Anguilla/Cap does. Our other vacation we explore and go to different places.Sometimes we even split that week and go to 2 different destinations. This spring we are going to Ocean Club, Bahamas (4days)then Key West, Ocean Key Resort (4 days). This way we can explore and still go to our favorite place on earth!

Different strokes for different folks. Thats what makes this world interesting. If certain people want to go back to same place every year, good for them, if thats what makes (THEM) happy. If you like to explore different places every year, thats just as good.

Why is it that certain people put others down for their vacation preferences? Does it make you feel bigger or more superior? I don't get it. This is vacation we are talking about. If someone happens to like Sandals, who cares? I've never been to a Sandals, but if these people enjoy it, how is putting them down helping anyone?

People need to simply chill out, and go where (THEY) enjoy, whether it's some over-priced luxury resort, or the airport Inn. The best place to vacation is where you enjoy yourself, and are most happy. If folks like Jack feel better about putting others down over a choice of vacation spots, they are beyond help. I only hope these same folks figure out the real meaning of happiness someday.

We do both.

In winter/spring we return over and over to Jamaica - I doubt we'll do another Caribbean island again - but we go to different places in JA for part of each trip, and do part where we know everyone and are comfortable.

In summer we go somewhere new each year, not the Caribbean.

Many people love to return to the same destination each year or time because it is familiar and a known quality. It becomes like a second home. When you've found perfection why try to improve and just be disappointed? Others like the changes and spend most of their time getting acquainted with the island and it's time to leave. But the adventure and trying something new is the attraction. I am attempting to visit every major island and some of the minor ones too in my quest of the best Caribbean destination.
Then there are those timesharers who go for the socialization and meeting the same people every year.
Guess there is plenty of room for all of them!
