Just back from Nassau!
Spent four relaxing days in Nassau and have these highlights to report:
Stayed at the BC Hilton after getting a great deal. The hotel is conveniently located and service is good. Had some great meals at Cafe Matisse, MamaLoos, Travellers Rest. Had a so-so meal at Twin Brothers at Awawak Cay. Really enjoyed the cigar lounge at Five Twins (Atlantis) Highly recommend the Powerboat trip to Exuma. Very well run and a great day that I will remember for a long time. Compass Point is closed indefinitely and nobody is saying much about it. I know hurricane damage is the reason but didn't see any repairs being done.I hope this is not indicative of deeper problems... Any questions -- just ask. |
Thanks for the Nassau update. Just curious, on the way to Compass Point, did you happen to see any damage done to the Orange Hill Inn? It's atop the hill to the left, just about a mile before Compass Point, to the left. Thanks in advance. Robert

it looked fine to me, no sign of closure or anything.

Thanks for your report. Did you have a city view or ocean view room? Since the rooms, except for the suites, don't have balconies, we are wondering if it is worth the extra money to get an oceanview room. What's your take on the subject?
|
We did have an oceanview (and paid extra for it). By mistake, we were given a city view at first. But we took one look and then got on the phone, and they moved us immediately. I would go for the water view.

Another question for you - regarding the powerboat adventure to exuma cays - just checked out the website and it looks fantastic - are there bathrooms on the island? And what about shade? Are there enough umbrellas to go around? Thanks.
|
There are no bathrooms on the island -- you have to use the ones on the boat.
There's not a lot of shade on the beach -- a few scraggly tiki huts but there are several shaded deck areas where you can sit, eat, drink and relax. I am very sun sensitive so I did not sit on the beach but it was worth going just to sit and stare at the water. |
We took PB Adv. a couple of years ago and there were bathrooms on the island and NONE on the boat - they are open deck speed boats. The bathroom crunch comes when you are headed back after a day of beach, Kaliks and sun - they have ONLY one at there office, but it was worth the trip.
The snorkeling is only fair due to the strong current but fun nonetheless. Just sitting on the beach, enjoying the beauty and the wild pigs was great fun. |
