Just back from Jamaica
 

I have just returned from a wonderful week in Jamaica. We rented a villa at the Half Moon Resort. Any questions, I will be glad to answer them!

Oh, my goodness, how did I miss your post? I have been craving info about Half Moon and Coyaba in Jamaica. Please tell me: Is the Half Moon very formal? We want elegance and luxury but we do not want to dress for dinner every night. We are going away for peace and quiet! Also, is a villa a good choice for a couple with no kids? I understand the smallest villa there is 2 bedrooms, and we don't need that, but in your opinion is the villa much superior to their rooms? And does a villa afford enough privacy or are there always staff hovering around you? <BR> <BR>Also: What is the beach like? Did you have a private pool? Good restaurants? Do you recommend meal plan or does the villa come with your own chef? I want to know everything! Also if you know anything about Coyaba, I'd be interested in that, too. Thanks!

Hi, <BR>We had a wonderful time. The villa we rented was seven bedrooms and there were only three couples, but the rate was pretty good. The staff is there when you need them, but they do not hover. We had a cook, butler, housekeeper/laundress and night security man. There is a restaurant at Half moon that I can highly recommend. IT is called Sugar Mill. I don't know how the rooms at the resort looked, but we met a couple staying there and they said the men have to wear long pants at dinner. That is why the villa is so wonderful. Half the time we ate in our swimming suits and our meals were when we wanted them. I don't know what the smallest villa is there. The beach at Half Moon is great and we went horseback riding also. Let me know I can answer any more questions...

Thanks, Diana. This is exactly what I needed to know. Now I can see that a villa would be our best option there. I asked the hotel about dress code and they said no shorts, sandals, jeans, or T shirts in any of their restaurants. Well, we go on vacation to get away from all that! <BR> <BR>I do have a couple other questions: How was the ride from the airport? What is their beach like? Is it good for swimming? And did you travel much outside of the resort? <BR> <BR>Thanks again! <BR> <BR>

The trip from the airport to Half Moon is only about 20-30 minutes, if that. <BR> <BR>I think their beach(es - there are at least two) are fine. They're a little wavy for my taste and not crystal clear due to sand floating around but they're warm and look beautiful. We were there in Feb of last year and it was a little windy so that may not always be the case. <BR> <BR>The best beaches in JA are, in my opinion, in Negril, if you're after the gentle lapping crystal clear shallow water thing. <BR> <BR>:) Liz

Glad to see your posting. <BR>I will be going to Montego bay for the first time and will be staying in a room at Half Moon. I was wondering if you could let me know about activities available onther than golf which are offered. Also, I understand that there are 5 resteraunts available, did you have the opportunity to try any other than Sugar Mill? Hows the night life? thanks
