My boyfriend and I are going in Sept. A friend of mine recommended Secret Harbor, however I heard that's not on the beach. I would like a hotel that is European in style with low-key guests and nice atmosphere. I am not a huge yachter and wonder if we would be comfortable in a place that caters mostly to the yacthing crowd. Onthe other hand, I have seen pictures of the property and it looks very nice. I have also heard that Coyaba and Caslabash are very nice but too touristy. What do you think?

We stayed at Coyaba. I definitely wouldn''t consider it touristy. It's a very good value for the money. It's a solid 3 star hotel. The grounds are very nicely landscaped and the staff was quite helpful. Bcuz it's such a good value they are almost always at capacity. But you'd really never know it. I'll try to quickly summarize my trip. 1) Hiked to Mt Qua Qua in Grand Etang Natl Park. Strenuous hike for a novice like me but wait til you see the view from the top. I'd highly rec this hike. 2) I spent 2 days (daytime) on Carriacou. You can take the Osprey Express catamaran (9 AM) from St. Georges. It's a 1 1/2 to 2 hour boat ride. You'll see the scenery along Grenada's west coast which is spectacular. Took a bus (minivan) from Hillsborough (Carriacou) (5 minute ride) to Paradise Beach and the name is correct. Spectacular beach and no one was there but me and a fisherman. I next had him take me and my girlfriend by boat to Anse La Roche beach. Great place. Snorkeling from the rocks on the left side of the beach and once again no one but me, the fisherman and my girlfriend. We swam nude while he took a nap. For our next stop he took us to Sandy Island. 80 yards of pure white sand and 20 yards of palm trees and vegetation. Great place. He dropped us at the dock for the 3:30 PM boat back to Grenada. Next time I go I'll definitely stay on Carriacou for a day or two. 3) La Sagesse Nature Center. Beautiful place with a spectacular beach. For US $28 + tax they'll pick you up at your hotel, take you on a very informative tour of the Southern part of Grenada. Take you on a leisurely and once again informative nature hike. You'll have a delicous lunch (swordfish, anyone) and still have several hrs of beach time b4 the return trip to your hotel during which the driver pointed out more of the numerous fruits and vegatable that grow eveywhere on the island. This is getting long and I'm running short on time. 4) Island Tour Annandale Falls, Rum distilllery, Cocoa processing plant, Grenville for roti's, Pearl's Airport, Levera Beach, Carib Leap, Gouyave (fisherman's village) and Concord Falls (a wonderful day). 5) 45 min to 1 hr hike to 7 Sister Falls. Spectacular 1st 2 falls. Then you hike around and literally walk/hike thru the last 5 smaller falls. GREAT. I don't mean to use so many superlatives but I mean them. Grenada is a wonderful island. If you're interested in the tours that I've described (other than La Sagesse), I have a friend in Grenada who does an excellent job at very reasonable prices. Feel free to e-mail me for more info. Have fun!!!!!

We stayed at the Calabash last September for our Honeymoon. Very low-key resort, not touristy, very nice atmosphere/accomodations. The rooms are all suites with Breakfast made to order by your maid and served on your patio. Excellent restaurant (I would say best on the island), nice quiet beach, not overly long, but nice for swimming and plenty of sun or shade. A lot of the guests were European, it is owned by an English person. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.
