Just back from Beaches!

Since this message board & others helped me so much, here are a few comments from our trip last week: Did not see a single mosquito, jellyfish, or stray dog. The resort is beautiful & the beach & water incredible! The best we've ever seen. The staff are very friendly & helpful (with the exception of the tour desk person).
Though I booked the basic standard room, we were put in 1/2 of a villa with a view of the ocean. The activities were entertaining & amusing. The housekeeping staff made twice daily visits to clean the room & resupply fresh towels.
The only negative comment I have is that if you are going for the free resort scuba course & trip, forget it. Your chances of doing this are slim to none. They sign up people at 8:00 am but my husband got there at 7:15 am, was 5th in line & did not get in. They only take 16 & the 1st 4 people signed up 4 people each. The next morning my husband was walking on the beach at 6:00 am & saw 2 people already in line. He said it wasn't worth it to wait in line for a 30 minute dive that only goes 20 ft. deep.
This was the only thing we didn't get to do but it was minor compared to everything else available. And the food was very good to superb depending on which restaurant. We tried them all & enjoyed each one.
Glad to answer any questions.

Dear Marie:
So nice of you to share!! We are planning a trip in April 2002 (12 of us - 4 kids). I've been to Club Med Turks and Caicos 5 times.(I'm single, my sisters are the ones with the kids) and LOVED it. I was a little apprehensive about recommending Beaches to my family only based on my trips to Club Med, but it seems that I've read so many good things about it, how can you go wrong. The beach alone is worth the trip.

Anything else you want to share would be most appreciated.

Thanks again!

Marie:

We have the opportunity to be upgraded to either the French Village concierge level or the ocean front concierge rooms. Based on your experience at the resort, which would you choose? Thanks so much for your help.

Lucy
Lucy,
It's a toss-up. The French Village is new, has a huge pool & the nightly entertainment is held there.
However, our villa was steps from the ocean, the pier & water sports area, & the Laguna pool where the daily activities were held, also we preferred eating lunch at Arizonas overlooking the ocean. It was really convenient for us to be able to run to the room & back if we wanted to.
I did not go in a room in French Village so I cannot compare, but ours was very nice.

I am going to beaches with 3 friends in june, we are very interested in scuba diving. how is the equipment available at beaches, should we bring our own gear ?

We are thinking of going here in May. How was the food, was there a lot of choices? Did you rent a car? Are there many places of interest outside the resort? We have no children and would like not to be surrounded by screaming kids but want to go to T.& C. and love the Sandals resorts. Are there restaurants for adults only?

We have been to Beaches Turks and Caicos twice. Please note: They are targeting families with children and they WILL probably be there in mass. The place is a virtual Disney Land for young kids but does not provide the same adult atmosphere of the other Sandals resorts. If that is what you desire I suggest you look farther down the beach for other accomodations. Turks and Caicos is lovely and still relatively unspoiled, nightlife is limited as are places to visit off the property. The beauty of the beach will please you. Enjoy!
