July in the Caribbean??? TOO HOT??
 

I will most likely be going to SJUSVI mid-July. Will I be hot and miserable?? My villa has A/C in the bedroom so that's not an issue, but what about hiking???

Will it be TOO HOT TO HIKE???

THanks...I apologize if I have been asking too many questions, but I simply want to be an informed traveler and you guys are the experts...

It's not the heat that will bother....it's the humidity.
Being a very lush island, SJ gets extremely humid, and during summer, of course, the sensation is intensified.

Sitting on the beach is not such a big deal with the breezes and dips in the water.
But hiking will tax you.
Not that people stop their activities during summer. Just be prepared. Make sure you're in good shape, carry fluids, use bug repellents, etc.

Say, is the moniker professional in nature or just whimsical?

Since I live in Louisiana, I actually find it cooler in the summer in St. John! I don't have ocean breezes or nice cool ocean water to dip in ( in Louisiana) but I experience the same extream humidity and more heat!

TedTurner is right, and I will add that to help with walking or hiking, do it in the early morning or late afternoon, if you can get in before nightfall. I wear a hat and SPF clothing and/or sunblock. You may want to check out one of those "cooling bandanas" you can put around your neck to keep you cool. I strongly second the recommendation to bring lots of insect repellent and drink, drink, drink water.

We were there last July and yes it was pretty war, esp. for physical activities. Was it too hot? No, but ones has to be at leisure, wear comfortable clothes and stay hydrated, and NOT with alcohol. That dehydrates your cells. Cheers, Larry

I am from Missouri and our summers are very hot and humid so I think that July in SJ will be a breeze...

After seeing what the Louisiana man had to say, I think I will be fine since Missouri and Louisiana both have bad humidity.
