Jeep Rental on St. John
My finace and I will be honeymooning on St. John in October. From what I have gathered, it is imperitive to get a 4D vehichle if you want get around the island. Has anyone rented from a good company or had a bad experience? Any feedback is welcome! Pickup at the ferry would be ideal, just not sure most companies offer that service. Thank you!

My husband and I rented a jeep from Courtesy Car Rental on St. John last year. They were very easy to deal with, and they picked us up from the ferry dock. We just had to tell them ahead of time our flight schedule, so they would know what time we would come in on the ferry. Check out their website at www.courtesycarrental.com I think we paid $390 for the week for a jeep. This is the off-season rate (we went in September), which you should be able to get. Just out of curiosity, where are you staying? If you are staying at the Westin (where we stayed last year), you definitely need a jeep for the entire week. If you are staying at Caneel (where we stayed on our honeymoon), though, I would only recommend a jeep for a couple of days.

Thanks for the input! We are staying at the Harmony Studios in Maho Bay http://www.maho.org/harmony.html. It appears to be situated on the northwest part of the island. Its a great deal, has wonderful views, from what I have been told. I cant wait, this will be our first trip to the Islands.

I've rented from Conrad Sutton twice in the last year, I had a good experience both times. Most of the companies on St John have similar prices and there's no sales tax.

We've rented from St. John Car rental as well as some of the others and we have found their cars to be newer and, generally, in much better condition that some of the others - just my opinion. We travel to STJ in November, still off season, and our rental rate is usually about $330-$350 (no tax on the island). Stay away from Denzil Clyne. Almost all of the car rental agencies are within walking distance from the ferry dock - about 5' max. At Maho, you're a bit of a drive from Cruz Bay, and the roads can be tricky if you're not familiar with the island - not that you could possibly get lost. Hopefully, you will arrive in CB early enough to do the drive out to Maho before dark. Remember, you drive on the left side of the road.
