January in Barbados- month of seafood, sand and relaxation!

My boyfriend and I are planning on staying in Barbados for the full month in January 2013. Here are some things that we are trying to find.

1. We are trying to find a place that is not too touristy because we live in NYC and my boyfriend wants to have a relaxing month away from a touristy city. But I want some chill local restaurants and bars. .

2. We also want a villa, apt or house that is on the beach that has some decent snorkeling within walking distance

3. We also enjoy other outdoor activities such as fishing, kayaking, diving, and fishing.

Are there any towns, cities, villages that I should look into? Or do you think that we should look into other countries.

Any tips would be so helpful! I have been looking at HomeAway and Airbnb for places.

Thank you so much for your help!

Best,

Stephanie

Wow, first Puerto Rico, Martinique or St. Kitts and now Barbados? Tourism has well and truly discovered Barbados a long time ago and January will be peak season, you will find many local restaurants and bars however. Snorkelling and scuba is rather disappointing.

Sounds nice to go to Barbados for a month. Remember that the month of Jan is a huge tourist month and a lot of places book fast. Check out Totallybarbados.com or google apt houses in Barbados and a large selection of houses and apt will show up. You need to study Barbados since you don't really seem to know it is very small. 34 km long and 23 km wide. Bridgetown is the capital but very quiet. Since you seem to like the water sports I believe the south coast beaches would be an option however I would advise you not to stay on the beach. Better to stay a bit away from the beach but with easy access to it. The west coast is more expensive however very quiet. Holetown is the town on the West Coast with all Necessities and a lifestyle center called Limegrove. Bars and Restaurants you can find all over the island in all price ranges and from regular restaurant to exclusive. Everything you need is here. i have learned over the years, been coming here since 2000 is that you need to get around and check out for yourself what you like and what you want. Make sure you have your accommodation sorted before arriving, immigration need that to let you in. Check out the websites and get to know the island and let me know if you need any more information and advise. Check out what budget you have too, you won't have to spend a lot of money if you do your research!!! regards Liz

Hi Haruko425, you sound just like me, so many places you have in mind but deciding is half the fun I think! So far i'm going to St.Lucia, Barbados, Nevis, Dominica, BVI lol ...

While researching Barbados I found www.vrbo.com very useful.

Have fun and let us know where you decide.

Hi haruko 425,

Just inThe west coast of Barbados offers a pretty good balance between having several amenities within walking distance and much of the time or a 5-10 minute drive away, without the hustle and bustle of the South Coast especially during the busy winter season.

To secure accommodation on the beach it is best to book as far in advance of the winter season as possible as apartments and villas are usually fully booked for the period.

Homeaway is a good resource. Perhaps also google Arlington St. James Barbados as well.

Good luck
