jan trip

Looking to take a last minute trip to the carribean in Jan. which island would have the best weather and diving conditions? Looking for laid back, nice beaches- hiking/biking would be a bonus. Not interested in nightlife. thanks for your advice

Try T&C. Great diving, (so my husband said, I do not dive.) Laid back and a great beach. We were there in Jan. several years ago. We really liked the beach, and you can snorkel right off of the beach if you want.

Is it hot enough there in Jan?

What about Aruba? Beautiful beaches and very stable weather, just about the same the year round, because it's so close to the equator.

Stacey, the weather was warm, not a blazing hot but warm. I would say 80's daytime. There is a nice breeze in the p.m. The beach was fine all day. I do recall thinking the water being somewhat cool for myself, but people were in the water swimming. Aruba may be also a good choice as it may be warmer.

Think about Antigua - great weather, great beaches, and very laid back.

Brian had a good idea. Antigua doesn't have a lot of nightlife, although someplace like Sandals offers it's own entertainment. My wife likes the shopping and we both like the sightseeing. The food is good and it's a good place to relax whatever your age is. Our best photo album is from Antigua. It's also a great island to cool off on.

Try the Basse-Terre island of Guadeloupe. Pigeon Island (just off the coast)there is famous as diving (and snorkeling) center - Jacques Cousteau once called it one of the 10 best dive sites in the world. There are a couple of beautiful (black sand)beaches within a short drive, and it borders the huge tropical rainforest national park where you can hike or bike till you drop.<BR>Some other good divers' locations are Bonaire and St. Eustatius. Both are very laid back.
