Jamaica vs The DR

We are looking to book a trip in late Feb 2015. We are both in our mid-20s and looking to stay somewhere AI (either Jamaica or DR?). Now it has come down to decide where. I have been to both the Dominican Republic and Jamaica as stops on cruises, but never for a extended period of time.

We are interested in activities such excursions off the resort, experiencing culture, going to the beach, snorkeling, some sort of night life would also be nice. We are hoping to find a resort that is reasonably priced. (we are not looking for anything that is too upscale). I think we are leaning towards to Jamaica because from what I have read so far it matches up best. What do you think?

Jamaica!!! (absolutely no contest)

I like Negril.

Another vote for Negril, but not so much for AI. You really don't need it in Negril. There are so many reasonably priced places to eat both on the beach and on the cliffs. Just be careful of school vacation week(s) wherever you decide to go. It could be mob scene!

I agree, no need for all-inclusive. Go to Negril and do it on your own. It's a fantastic experience.

I probably should have mentioned I've been 2x to DR and 3x to Jamaica.
