Jamaica or DR

I was wondering which island do you feel is best. Thinking of a destination wedding in April/May. Basically want all the nice things of an island-nice weather, nice beach, blue water, snorkeling, golf, good food. Several children may come so it can't be at a resort that is adult only. All inclusive would likely be best so everyone knows price ahead of time. Any recommendations or thoughts on which island would be best for a wedding?

oh, also would like to keep cost on the low end but still nice place if you know what I mean. No $500/night places.

Thanks

Look into AI's in Negril which has a terrific beach and in the Punta Cana of La Romana areas in the DR. There are many to choose. $$ wise the DR should be a bit less. here's a link for info on the DR.

I meant Punta Cana OR La Romana.

Am completely biased, of course. (love JA,passionately/hate the DR, viscerally) but Jamaica's
Half Moon or Tryall
(and most probably a detached villa
at either) would fit all your wishlists,
esp. 15 April-1st for best weather.

Check luxurylink.com for auctions on stays on good properties. Flying midweek
will also save you on airfare, tho ticket prices airlines don't set until 8-10 months prior to your US departure dates.

thanks for your input. I'm going to see a travel agent soon to see what kinds of deals she can find for what we want to spend. I've been to Jamaica to Dunn's River falls for a few hours during a cruise stop and thought it was very pretty. I thought it was prettier than the Mexico area and Grand Cayman as far a how pretty it was. I did not venture onto many places.

I've never been to the DR, and to Jamaica only once, but as far as I know, Jamaica offers a much better tourist infrastructure for getting out beyond the resort areas. Whether you want hiking, waterfalls, rum distillery tours, river rafting, or a zip-line experience--Jamaica is the place for it. If you think your guests might like to get out beyond their hotel, it would be a better choice than DR. You could easily set up an excursion for your entire group, too.
