Jamaica Inn Rooms
 

I am planning a trip to Jamaica Inn in May, and I have two questions:

1) Which is preferable: West Wing or Beach Wing rooms?

2) Should we do the all-inclusive plan if we do not intend to drink much alcohol? My husband will probably have a couple drinks a day, and I will likely have one every other day or so. But, I love juice. And, we plan to stay on the property most of the time.

Gerry and I stayed at the Jamaica Inn two years ago. We checked out the Beach Wing but decided on the West Wing because of the privacy. We did select the all inclusive plan because we like to drink when on vacation! That being said, I do think it is worth it given the price at this time of year. Enjoy!

Suggest you consider the east wing upstairs. Rooms 26-31 unless you want to be on the water (west wing) or beach (east wing lower level).

The food at the JI is very good and so is the service. Beverages were great and generous, but expect to pay accordingly. There are several excellent offsite choices for diner within a 10 -20 minute cab ride from the Inn. Suggest you consider getting out and visiting them - makes coming back "home" to the JI an even more enjoyable experience!

Travelincane, by the east wing upstairs, do you mean the least expensive balcony rooms? If so, do you prefer those or the balcony rooms in the main wing? It seems that the main wing balcony rooms would have better views (being highter), but east wing closer to the water. Can you hear the ocean at night from both, either?

In response to xkenx, I did not take in the view from the main building, but I am sure it is superb, looking straight north to the Ocean. The balcony of the east wing rooms face near west - with sunset views and views of the entire JI grounds to the west. Room 31 is at the end of the east wing, overlooking the beach as well and it was a bit higher in price that other rooms in that building on that level.

Regardless of what room you select, if you are going to Jamaica be sure to get off property, up into the mountains, around and about. The country is beautiful and you can not see it all just from a beach front resort or room!

As for hearing the ocean - yes from the east wing, but the waves are small and the sound was accordingly faint - but relaxing!

Travelincane, from the balcony of the east wing rooms, could you see over the west wing to the ocean towards the west? Also, was there any traffic noise in the room from the road behind?

The west wing does block the foreground view to the west. The road that fronts the property to the east receives little traffic and it did not bother me despite the fact that I live in a very quiet mountain setting in Colorado.

Based on your inquiries, I think you might be most pleased with the main building (upstairs).

2 years ago in May we stayed in the inexpensive rooms (aka the cheapest :-) ) and were above the office we loved the room.

My personal view is that in such a small resort you don't get 'bad' rooms.

When we were in our room we spent most time on the balcony so we liked being on the second floor.

We didn't do AI and found that when we looked at the cheque we spent less (even though we do drink) than we would have spent on AI.

The food is amazing - you will love the atmosphere, it really is a wonderful place.

If you do like JI and are looking for somewhere for a resort of it's ilk - try Nisbet Plantation on Nevis. we found our fellow guests to be slightly more relaxed but the food just as good.
