Jamaica in October????

My fiance and I are now considering an all-inclusive honeymoon in Jamaica. We are also considering Puerto Vallarta, but it's a bit more pricey. We're looking for a relaxing beach destination, with some options for night life if we'd like to venture out of the resort.

My main question is---should we even consider going to Jamaica the first week of October? I must say that I just started researching so I haven't checked any weather almanacs, etc. Fodors is my first stop as I'm hoping you might be able to help narrow it down. From what I've read, we should try to stay in Montego Bay or Negril. I get the idea that Ochos Rios doesn't have much going on outside of the resort.

Also, for anyone who's been to Jamaica, are you familiar with the Sunset Beach Resort and Spa? I've read a few reviews on trip advisor and it seems pretty decent and is more in our price range.

I appreicate any feedback. Thanks!

Will also be on island starting 1st week Oct which can be super or not weather (same with PV) depending on
this fall's storm season. For any Caribbean/west or east coast Mexico destination would strongly recommend
trip/travel/cancellation/delay/storm
insurance (see www.insuremytrip.com and
travelguard.com) which runs about 2-3%
of total trip value. Note that hurricane insurance is only valid if
the airport you fly into/from is closed
due to storms. Would recommend you upscale a bit -- it is your honeymoon -
and look at off-season pricing/luxurylink.com and other auction sites for AIs outside MoBay.
RoundHill, tho pricey, may have some deal rates/15 min.from airport, as may
The Caves in Negril. Non AI options:
Idle-A-While, Rockhouse in Negril, Tensing Pen -- or a private villa which can be a farbetter buy than most AIs. It all depends not only on budget, but your taste and style. Negril will have more nightlife options than MoBay by far.

Ochie, btw., is indeed a nightlife town
but accomodations can be dated and the
AIs there are a mixed bag, often like
small impregnable fortresses. Would highly recommend Goldeneye in Orcabessa
outside of town by about 20 min. A superb restaurant, romantic, and a mix of French/Ja style called Cafe Aubergine at Monegue in the mts about
20 min.from town or Toscanini's at Harmony Hall, about 10 min.east of town
as well as Evita's offer superb food.
The new RIU is also in Ochie offers bargain rates, if that's your style of AI/not mine...

Tiv, I'll be there the end of Oct - will try to look you up. Will you be there in August? Deciding between Port Antonio and Treasure beach for a few days after visiting family in Mandeville and before going onto one of those AI's in Montego Bay (got kids you see)

Jray: My assistant's getting married Labor Day so this is a combo honeymoon gift to them and a crazy, kamikaze photo shoot in TB, Porty and Mamee Bay.
Won't be there til first week Oct -- post shoot, I'm holing up and just relaxing. PM me later on in summer and I'll try to give you some sort of idea where we'll be.
