Jamaica in Oct?
 

My husband and I want to take a trip to Jamaica for our anniversary, which is late Oct (Oct 22). Is that a bad time to be traveling in Jamaica? (Is that hurricane season?) Thanks!!

You never know of course but they say it's generally done by October.

We'll be there then and have chosen to stay in Treasure Beach, on the osuth coast because it's in the rain shadow of a mountain range that keeps the area a lot drier than the rest of the island, thus increasing our chances of not getting rain during our stay.

In general the north and east coasts are the rainiest.

My husband and I are also considering going to Jamaica in October. We are debating on going to the Runaway Bay area and staying at the Royal Decameron vs. staying in the Montego Bay area. We've heard great things about the Royal Decameron, but we also like to be able to venture out and eat in some of the "hole-in-the-wall" places, nice restaurants, bars, too, etc...Would Montego Bay be a better location for this?
And, is safety an issue in the Montego Bay area? Any recommendations re Hotels and Restaurants? Thanks for your help! eb from Texas

MoBay is a fairly large city...with areas to avoid and areas that are fine.

Runaway Bay is much smaller and I'd say safe anywhere.

I was in Ocho Rios last October (24-31st) and it rained quite a bit, there were at lease two days of rain, but other than that it was gorgeous the other days

The peak of hurricane season in Jamaica is 8/11-10/27. During this time period the risk is spread almost evenly, with a slight peak in mid-September.

Early Oct on island is generally wonderful weather;mid-to-late October brings more rain and the chance of either hurricane/tropic storms or groundseas. Port Antonio will be rainiest, South Coast, esp.St. Elizabeth parish and Treasure Beach the driest. Trip/travel cancellation insurance from www.travelguard.com, insuremytrip.com , campbellirvine.com or travelex-insurance.com is also a wise travel safeguard.

Concern over October weather is why we decided to stay in Treasure Beach this time, plus I like it there.

We honeymooned in Jamaica in 2001 in late October (22-29) and it rained late afternoon for a few minutes and then stopped. It was actually a welcome break from the hot sun!
we are actually going back this october. we are getting travel insurance once again just in case of hurricanes.

Hi. You will have rain in Oct., quick showers that come and go, but can be intense.

I'd recommend Negril though - super food, great beaches, and cheap room rates!

Lots of choices on the 7-mile beach - Charela Inn, Swept Away, both super.
