Jamaica in July
My husband an I are going to Negril in July. This will be our first time to Jamaica. We have always gone to Riviera Maya and wanted to do something different! Really excited but worried about the weather. Sholuld we expect a lot of rain? We have heard that it is rainy season so I am worried. I am a teacher so this is the only time of year we can go! Please help me destress!!!! Thank you!

We 2 are thinking of Negril in July. Is the Couples Resorts OK?

Actually July is rather dry when you look at the 12 month rainfall amounts for Jamaica, it's the only summer month that is.
There is the hurricane possibility as is the case with most of the Caribbean at that time, so trip insurance may be worth buying. |
Rainy season is relative.
It has been my experience that the rain rolls in and out pretty quick. A short thunderstorm in the afternoon is what I remember. |
July and August in Jamaica tend to be rainy - end of July/early August. But the weather patterns have been all over the place recently so don't sweat it too much. It can literally go either way.
Just follow the weather closer to the time you're planning on visiting and plan accordingly. |
We have been to Negril twice in July. The first was quite a few years ago. This is probably just a coincidence but we found that there was an early afternoon shower at about 1-2pm almost every day. Never lasted long enough to ruin the day at all. Recommend getting to the beach early before the heat anyway. Those storms make for a great afternoon nap!

Plan for HOT weather, plan for sunning/exploring in am, a rain shower generally in afternoon, 2pm onwards or evenings, then full clearing.
June tends to be rainier, but with a small El Nino in Pacific still influencing Caribbean weather, who knows what the pattern will be. No need for stress whatsoever... |
The weather at the beginning of August was VERY GOOD for us. It rained a few times but it was usually in the afternoon after we had put in quite a few hours on the beach. It was very HOT.
We did some great excursions. If you want some ideas, here's my trip report with pics: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34850389 |
