Okay, here goes. I've decided on Sunset at the Palms in Negril. The 'Couples', 'Sandals' resorts just seemed to me like overkill for us. Don't have a clue if that makes sense to anyone else, but there it is. I know we'll have to cross a road to get to the beach but the resort itself just appeals to me like no other. If you know something DREADFUL please let me know SOON!! I'm booking the trip in the morning.
I can't tell you how much all the advise has meant. Thanks so much to all! Hope I can return the favor someday. Although we've traveled Europe and I can give suggestions there, this is our first trip to the Caribbean. You have all been very helpful.

Having just returned from Negril, might I suggest splitting your time between Sunset at the Palms and Rockhouse on the cliffs? We split our time between the beach (at Beaches because we had our two teenage girls who wanted to try the big resort thing, though our four days there were quite enough) and then on to Rockhouse.

I think you would love it. Though it is not on the beach, you can climb down a ladder from your private thatched roof villa right into Pristine Cove. We loved the place! The restaurant on site was lovely and quite good but not being at an AI gave us a chance to try local places nearby.
