Island vacation ideas- late April 2007
 

My fiance and I are in our late 50s. We usually travel in late April to take advantage of off/shoulder season rates, and because it's still cold in Boston! We have been to the Grand case Beach Club in St. Martin and to the Bucuti in Aruba twice and loved it (we even loved the Kukunu bus bar crawl.)Luxury on a budget is my motto. We like nice restaurants and a cocktail or 2 at a nice bar. Love the beach but don't do water sports. We are looking for something we will like as much, but in a new location. Any advice? Will consider Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas...would also like info on any hurricane damage to the beaches. Thanks!

I have to suggest the Half Moon in Montego Bay. Website is www.halfmoon.com It isn't cheap but an all inclusive plan will insure all the delicious drinks you can imagine and excellent food. We're in our late 50's and we love it there. Hey, you guys, noone else answered this nice person, so I had to get my two cents in. Seriously, I encourage you to check it out if it is within your budget. April rates should be cheaper.

Twigs, the place looks spectacular. Can you tell me more about it? Do you have a favorite room? I have never done AI before because we love to try new restaurants. What are your dining out experiences..also other tips--transportation, sightseeing...btw, thanks for answering!

Hi there, My family and I have been in Barbados recently. I'm sorry I didn't see your post before. We have chosen a Hibiscus Suite on our past two trips to the Halfmoon. They are so convenient to everything, but the cottages in the halfmoon section are charming too. That's where Richard Branson chose to stay with his parents during July 4th. I can't say enough nice things about this resort and the people there. We don't do all the water sports;we're too old and too lazy. We choose a Take Me to the Moon package which covers everything...all your food, drinks, room service, etc. I think you will be very pleased if not delighted by the food both on the Seagrape Terrace and in Il Giardino, which has an authentic Italian chef, Andrea, who's nonna taught him to make gnocchi. The Sugar Mill is also on property, and gets great reviews. There's a nice little shopping center nearby. You can go by shuttle. There's also a great little commissary withing walking distance. The service is so good, and the people are unforgettable. You'll meet Angela and Elma who will greet you on the terrace. The bellmen are so kind and helpful. The last time we were there, Ralston bought us an extra light duffle bag on his day off so we could bring it home stuffed with coffee and ok, some dirty laundry. He is a delightful, honorable young man. So is Urel. It makes me smile just to think of them. You might even request Mrs. Beverly Brown in housekeeping. She has become a friend of mine. We stay in touch throughout the year. Delroy, Desmond, Paulie, are just a few of the bartenders right on the terrace who will fix you wonderful drinks. Delbert brought me fresh coconuts from the market, chilled them and cut them for me to enjoy the delicious water. There are so many hands waiting and willing to serve you on the terrace...Trisa, Lennox, Winston, and others. There is a charming older gentleman who plays piano each evening. There might be a band, one night each week there is a "show," and I hope you are able to hear the smooth voice of Audley Scott. The Halfmoon is not a wild. party place, but you will have so much fun if you choose to go. I long to return to the Halfmoon; I really do. I just relax and reenergize there like no where else I've ever been. I'm a little tired this evening, so I hope I haven't rambled. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. I'm not an authority on Jamaica, but I do love it.

Hello I am posting to you again and I can hardly type, I'm so excited. WE are going back to the Halfmoon for eight days in late February. Booked res and flight last night. I don't need anything under my Christmas tree, and believe me there won't be. Who could want more? I hope you folks see this. I don't know how I missed you back in September, but I'm reaching out again. Hope to hear from you. I'm so happy to go back; you just can't imagine what this place does for me. Love to everyone in the world{I'm that happy today}

we are looking into this resort and would just like to know which group of suites sits on a nicer beach...royal or hibiscus? ive read that the hibiscus suites are nice, but on a rocky beach. we would prefer to be on a nicer, swimmable beach...

this resort looks great and although we have already booked another destination for august, 2007, i cant help but "find" new places on this website as well as tripadvisor....

the beauty of these websites is that you can gather tons of information, but the bad side is that you also can drive yourself crazy...!!

we booked a resort on the island of great exuma which is twice the amount of half moon.....trying to figure it out and so far the only thing available for our weeks are the suites...the villa's are booked already !!
